I've lived here my entire life, so feel free to message me with questions. Like any city, Modesto has its good & bad parts. But as far as day cares go, there are options. You have plenty of church based pre-school type daycares to choose from including Childtime & Montessori, all are licensed by the state of California. You also have many home daycares to choose from, also required to be licensed. Licensing is for 6-12 children, you'll want to ask that when you interview your potential daycares. As far as the area goes, So. Modesto has a drug & gang problem, but North Modesto is very nice with some great schools and easy access to the freeway. If you're looking in Stanislaus/San Joaquin Counties in general, check out Turlock, Ceres, Hughson, Ripon, Riverbank, Manteca & Oakdale. All have great communities with plenty of activities for the kids and safe suburban neighborhoods. Good luck!

Please give me some ideas?

Thank you and Happy Holidays,

Even living in North Modesto, traveling to Stockton with traffic on I-5 the way it is, you'll have at least a 40 minute commute one-way. My husband drove it for a while, and it wasn't a lot of fun. If you want to look for nice areas a little further north of Modesto, but South of Stockton, check out Lathrop, Manteca, Ripon, Salida & Tracy. All have some very nice new neighborhoods, and also areas out in the country with land if that's what you're looking for. Excellent communities for families with options for home-based or church based daycares.

Stockton might be one of the ugliest cities known to man... along with Modesto, but I recall there being some nice patches in the city. Maybe someone here, like Everest, could give you more by providing some specific neighborhoods to consider.

DixieSpanklin:There are some great areas in Stockton. Spanos East and West, Windmill Cove, North Morada. I live in Weston Ranch and it has it share of problems, but is a nice community. I sell real estate and being a former police officer know the town well. Tracy is a real nice town, but more pricey.

I prefer Stockton to Modesto, just preference. Modesto is a ways out for most. It has it share of good and bad, but so does every community in California. Jackson Rancheria just had a gang shooting...in a casino of all places. The larger the city the more things to do and potentially more problems. Each city has pros and cons...just depends on what you really want. I was looking for a home in December 2008. I had $110K and wasw living in Manteca. I could not find a home in that price range that was not as old as I am. So I found a 7 year old home in Weston Ranch for $115K. I am on the Weston Ranch Organization Committee and we have monthly community meetings with our Police Officers. We band together and have made a huge difference. BTW my home has gained value since I bought it....Yes I do have an alarm system, with wonderful neighbors

The commute from Stockton to the Bay Area or Sacramento is not bad. The weather in the Central Valley is nice. It gets hot in the summer, and cold in the winter...nothing like UT. Depending on what your family needs are will determine the City that will be best for you. If you have not yet relocated, call me I can help! 209-774-1119, Ben Adrian.

Areas with the 95355 and 95350 zips..sylvan school district...nice areas..there seems to be quite a few kindercares around..you'd have to visit them-all are a little different. I shopped with my daughtwer for day care in san diego-there was one kindercare i loved and another not! (i'm a retired preschool teacher)..so be sure to visit all centers carefully...

Lincoln Village/Park Woods in Stockton is nice. Morada is nice. Brookside, Spanos Park. If you like older 1920's 30's neighborhoods, the area around Univ of Pacific. Lodi is nice to.

This is a great great pre-k....

Contrary to popular belief, Stockton, CA has nice things to offer. We initially planned on moving to Patterson but decided Stockton is as good (after our Realtor showed us around the city, including the bad neighborhood). Just like any city, it has the goods and the bads. We moved from the bay area and so far have no regrets. The neighborhood we moved in is clean, quiet & safe. I haven't seen a cop car yet and we've been here three months already (hopefully I didn't jinx it... lol). During the summer, you see couples walking around the neighborhood at night and see kids play and clean after themselves. Pride of (home) ownership is shown all over the neighborhood. Too bad the media only concentrates in reporting bad news, otherwise people will realize Stockton is not a bad place to live.

Lodi is probably your best bet fairly close to Stockton. Ripon is a good small town too. Although its a longer drive than you want (45 minutes I would guess) Oakdale is without a doubt the best community in the North San Joaquin Valley. I lived there all through elementary school up to age 14 and consider myself very fortunate for the experience. I've moved around so much in my life that stretch of time in Oakdale is the closest I had to a "home town". I absolutely love it and if circumstances were right I'd move back there in a heartbeat. I visit it frequently enough to know its still a great town.
