This has been a fantastic Winter season so far along the central CA coast. We have had a great combo of some rain, clouds and sun.

I took the family on a hike into Point Lobos last night in shorts and light jackets. This stuff is great! Here are some recent shots:

I just talked with my relatives in CO and FL about the intense cold they are experiencing right now. Colorado Springs got down to -7F. I'm so glad to have moved back to the west coast.

Sure I know, what about the politics, COL, blah, blah, blah, whine, rant, belch, etc... I don't care. You take the good with the bad wherever you live. As far as I am concerned there is no place else I'd rather be.

Derek

Beautiful pictures!!! On Christmas day I went kayaking with some friends in the back bay of Morro Bay. This last weekend me and the dogs hiked up Valencia Peak and it was clear as far as the eyes could see. Plus, of course, it was around 70 degrees too

That last shot is really cool, as they all are.

Even though Southern CA could use more rain, it's been really nice the past couple of weeks. For the past week and a half it's been in the 70's in San Diego with really amazing sunsets each night as well. I hope it start raining eventually again b/c we need but I'll enjoy this great weather in the meantime.

JetJockey,

I was just in Morro Bay with my family a few days before Christmas. We spent some time at Montana de Oro State Park. That is a great place to visit. It rained the first day. Then the next morning the skies cleared and it was really great. I particularly like the rock striations along the coast there:

We drove up Hwy 1 through Big Sur on the way home, checked out the elephant seals near San Simeon. It was incredible as always.

Doesn't look much different from a wonderful California summer.

You all can thank Derek (as well as he Tournament of Roses committee) for the next influx of east coast and mid west relocatees to California in the next six months, and their cubs and red sox hats, their rusty cars, and their funny accents.

Charles, I despise the Cubs and White Sox...Colts...Bears and all that crap because that's all i see here I get some foul looks on my Dodgers plate.

Hey Derek, those were great pictures!!!! That second pic: Sure looks like the rocky cutout that was in the opening scene of the 1960's horror film "The Terror" with Jack Nicholson. I wonder if it is?

Sure! Sure! Rub it in as we're sitting here at 9˚ looking at a light snow fall.

Those are truly beautiful photos of Monterey\ Big Sur! It has been warm for quite a while without any rainfall [which is a bad omen that El Nino may miss California].
