yeah california has a lot more job oppurtunities than most other states. the downside is southern california cus it's mainly ugly suburban area's with suburban track housing that all is the same and everyone drives here no one walks and theres lots of traffic and plenty of disrespecful rotten teenagers and lots of mexican gangs that are racist and walk around representing brown pride claiming california is theirs. if you enjoy nature and the outdoors southern california is one of the worst places to live. if you live in the suburb areas you gotta drive either to the cities, mountains, or beach if you wanna do something fun.

There aren't enough.

To the OP: That's part of the answer. The thug mentality has permeated the culture here in California. For every "view" out there, there's some butt-hole or group of butt-holes thinking he/they own the block or city or mall or whatever. Who in their right mind, wants to deal with that sh-it day in and day out? Also, there are way too many immigrants that want to do their own thing. So it just doesn't work.

Not unique to California. That's pretty much what America has turned into.

I've never seen any of those hard core gang members in any Southern California communities like those shown in the photographs. In fact, one of the things that I like about those communities is that they are sort of "out there", buffered by tens of miles from the gang communities.

Here's a graphical view of the buffer

I don't know how you can say California has a lot more job opportunities than other states right now, with the high unemployment rate?

Shouldn't the number for the area as a whole be considered? Most of the people that live in most of these cities don't work in the same city they live in (with exceptions (Irvine :cough::cough).

This is more a list of "cities where people who ARE working LIVE".

It's really only a problem if you make it a problem. For example, I lived in a gang infested neighborhood for most of my life in North Hollywood, and I did well for myself (in fact, I even graduated college ). It's really no different than any other clique of people, and probably no different in any other part of America.

And about the immigrants doing their own thing...my parents are immigrants, and I don't see them doing anything wrong. Most of my circle of friends either are immigrants or children of immigrants and we just want to live our lives.

I lived in California for ten years, and I'll just sum up my experiences across several different areas with this:

California is like a gold plated turd. You can shine it up so it's pretty to look at but underneath it's still a turd.

Los Angeles County 12.3%
Orange County 9.7%

I think the message is, if you live in Santa Ana, a higher percentage of your neighbors are unemployed than if you live in Irvine.
