From my experience with them back in the 1970's, I wouldn't insure with GEICO if they were the only insurance company on the planet

Geico has a bad rep. Why do you think a lizard represents the company on TV?

I didn't see USAA on the list, but they consistently get very good rankings.

Our own experience with them: They chased us down and paid the 500 buck repair bill that we paid because we had a 500 deductible, after some uninsured imbecile from Mass. hit my wife in the rear bumper.
They were under no obligation to pay that, and we certainly didn't expect it.
It was a minor bumper injury, but it doesn't take much to spend five bills these days.

You have to have some military connection to join USAA, but if you're a vet it should be no problem.

Sounds like a lizard doesn't change his spots, eh?

Wow! Thanks everybody. I am a retired military vet, and will tear up my GEICO renewal check to be re-written to another company. Glass coverage used to be a courtesy pay without deductable withdraw. And, I need REAL insurance that will actually pay if needed, not just to keep my driver's license. Sure appreciate all this info on my very serious dilemma.

I can only speak from my own personal experiences with GEICO:

I had an accident. It was my fault. I was not paying attention.

I called GEICOS claim center and boy, they took over. They contacted the other driver - arranged to have their car repaired - got them a rental car and so on - very quick. The other driver called me to compliment on the service.

As for my car? Same thing - I could not have been more pleased.

Recently (Jan), my wife was getting into her car, had one foot in the car and the other started to slip out from underneath her (ice). She fell and her left foot came up and got jambed under the car - she fell right - her foot went left. Shattered both bones in her left ankle.

Out of nothing more than pure curiosity - I called Geico regarding what the "medical payments" on my policy were / are for. I described what happened. Here we go again - I got a claim number - and a claim form - Geico is covering all the "little" expenses our medical policies don't pick up - even the co-pays on the medications.

Honestly - I am very pleased with Geico.

I too had no issues with claims when I was with GEICO.

A lot of policies specifically except out GLASS. That you need a rider or whatever it is called to the policy to cover the glass. This isnt just Geico.

I do not know the ratings, but we have State Farm on some cars and Safeco on another.

State Farm usually pays when you threaten to sue them. Safeco was pretty good.

A lot has to do with your agent. I pay a bit more than the competitors for Farmer's, but all claims have been handled extremely quickly and I, the customer, have always been very pleased. I'll gladly pay a little more to ensure my partner and I will be treated as humans and get the coverage we're entitled to.
