Our other cat just likes to eat shoestrings. You never want to leave a pair of shoes out at night unless you don't need the laces in the morning.
I have a kitty fascinated with the grocery bags. Chews and rips them to little pieces. We cant leave any around where she may have access to. And God forbid we come in from the supermarket. Its like Christmas morning. Even as liners for some garbage cans, if she sees, it..she chews away.

My parents have a cat that I adopted out to them who chews ANYTHING--Nightstands, shoelaces, shoes, shreds newspapers, opens closet doors and rips holes in food packages and such....and sometimes I think its spite lol

My older cat does this, with thicker plastic things, I've noticed, I am wondering if she is trying to massage her gums...

Obviously I don't think this is good for him and discourage the behavior whenever I see him munching. But it does cause me to wonder if he's missing something from his diet which the pastic is statifying. (His sister doesn't do this; they eat the same food.)

So, anyone ever hear / deal with this?
Seamus loves packing tape. He doesn't eat it, merely chews it. Vet says as long as it's not a steady diet, it won't hurt him....

My mother has a cat that licks plastic grocery sacks. I do wonder why some cats seem to enjoy plastic.

Red face plastic

Yes! I thought my kittie was the only nut. If she hears me using plastic (wrapping, bags, etc.) she'll wait till I'm not looking and start chewing it. The worst thing is she's gotten her little brother to do the same. I'm just careful now and throw it out or put it away.

We had a cat that did this once. A package of toilet paper in the bathroom and he would chew the plastic wrapping off. He was the strangest cat we ever had though. He died a couple years ago.(not from the plastic). The cat we have now takes off running when he hears us with those plastic grocery bags. He just chews on the silk flowers that are around the house.

My himilayan cat likes to chew potato chip packages, plastic wrappings around cheese, etc. He also likes to lick the pages in magazines. He is now taking the potato chips out of the bag and licking the salt from the chips but never eating the potato chip.

Potato chip bags - now that must be a funny sight! Just goes to show, all these felines really do have their own personality.

Both my kitties like to chew on plastic, but they don't eat it. Ive tried getting them rubber dog toys to use, but they want the plastic. They won't go near grass to chew on either.
And both my kitties are female, both 8 years old and both from different litters.

Default Cats With Plastic Bags

I Had A Cat Who Loved To Lick Plastic Bags And Would Chew On Them Too.
Unfortunately This Is Very Dangerous, She Was Taken To Vet On 2 Ocassions For Intestinal Blockage Related To Plastic Bits In Her Intestines.

I Finally Found Out Why Some Cats Love To Lick Or Chew On Plastic Bags.........
Plastic Bags Are Coated With A Fine Film Using A Fish Oil Substance, Cats With Sensitive Noses Pick Up The Fish Oil Scent.
If Your Cat Is Chewing On Plastic Bags, Be Sure To Keep Them Out Of Reach!
