But my girls just sit and stare....and stare...and stare...and stare.
It's unnerving.
What gets me is that they both have piercing green eyes, and so when it's dark at night and I'm watching tv,etc, I'll turn my head and their glowing eyes just staring, for several minutes incessantly. No blinking involved. No matter what I do, they stare at me incessantly.
They are nothing short of being sweethearts and I love them .
Do you have this same experience with your cats? Does it make you feel uncomfortable?
When we drive down our street, the neighborhood cats stare at us as we pass by and then they turn and start trotting in the opposite direction. My husband is convinced they are spying on us and then reporting on our movements to some big cat mother ship. At least it's kinda fun to think that they are.

Oh yeah, quite frequently as a matter of fact. I always figured it was part of being owned by a cat that you have to get used to being watched. My girls usually want something when they're doing that.... attention, a treat, the chair I'm sitting in, etc., etc. If staring doesn't work fast enough to suit them, they'll move on to more direct measures, like pawing my leg, clawing my sleeve, or even jumping up in my lap & getting right in my face (that usually works).
Your girls may not want anything, but rather believe that you need supervision. Or perhaps they may still be wondering just why they adopted you in the first place (just kidding about that one).

That's an interesting theory. He may be on to something.
Even as I type this, the calico decided to wake up from her nap, on my bed, and randomly come into the living room. Of all of the places to go, where does she go? Right on top of a box, not more than 2 feet from me, positioning herself, and sitting and staring at me, in kitty "car"mode .
Fiona stares at me a lot, also. If I stare back and talk to her, she will start purring.
What is slightly unnerving is when I wake up at night and find that she is on the floor right by my bed,
Staring! I think the force of her stare is what wakes me up to begin with.
Ha! I love this thread. I don't have a cat, just wanted to find out why they're staring at you. I think they're practicing mind control, but haven't worked out the kinks.
