I can understand that they want to find good homes for their animals, but they certainly can go overboard, as STLCardsBlues1989 stated. Do they want to know your annual income too?

Like I said they are good reasons for doing what they do. Many cats too many cats end up in bad homes.

The problem is many rescues look for the perfect home, not a good home. While that is admirable, it is not realistic. If you always have to find the perfect home, many cats will go unclaimed.

If spay neuter is required by law like a rabies shot is then this issue will go down. Cats are common carriers of rabies and to control the disease if spay neuter was enforced things would improve. Less cats born over the years will help.

The only way spaying and neutering should be mandatory is if it was made more affordable. It's easy to say "they shouldn't have the cat if they can't afford to get it spayed/neutered" but if you took away animals from poor people, most of the animals would be put down anyway.

All kidding aside, saw a 'requirement' for rehoming by someone once on Craigslist where the orig. owner wanted the pet (a dog, I think) to go to someone who had a degree, sheesh, as if that qualifies them to be a better owner than another person

This is just not true. Cats can carry rabies, but the statistics of actual occurence is quite low.

One's local Public Health Laboratory will have statistics on this. Some areas of the country will show a higher incidence than others.

Bats/skunks are the wild carriers of the disease but when it comes to domestic pets and risk to humans cats carry it more so then dogs in the united states because more dog owners then cat owners get rabies shots, My boss/Art instructor at work keeps a tomcat thats never had a rabies vaccination.

to be perfectly honest, i am more disturbed by the "tom" part (read: not neutered) than i am by the lack of a rabies vaccination......

I agree with you there. If that distinction concerning 'tom' was made by PantherPride, that is. Too many unwanted cats almost everywhere.
