$1000 on a one bedroom- for the first time in a while I think we'll have someone happy with the move.
It'll be tricky to find an apartment for that dontown but if you look hard enough might finding something that is either small, a little rundown or near a not great area. Usually you can find something for that in Wagner Terrace which is decent area on the peninsula but not downtown.
But that'll get you into any of the Burbs with no problem and even into a house in North Charleston, West Ashley, or James Island. As an example- there is a two bedroom house about two blocks from me asking $975/mo. Its on a wonky lot but is in West Ashley and only two stoplights from downtown.
You can also typically also a couple find off-season condos on Folly Beach in that range. But then you have to move during tourist season. Still- its nice to live at the beach once in life.
OTC- didn't those units go condo. Given the real estate market- for condos in particular- I imagine we'll be seeing many at that rate. Funny thing is- I think they actually rented for more than that back in the early 00s. If I could make all my RE decisions in this market I could live like a King. But I'd still need my 2005-2007 salary to do so.
If the market remains the same until your planned move you should have no problem finding a rent for $1000 or less. Also, consider a purchase. You can find something pretty good with that kind of mortgage payment.
Consider James Island, West Ashley, and Johns Island. I've seen some very affordable places there. Also, there are plenty of young professionals in those areas and you are not far from downtown
I pay that amount in Mount Pleasant...........for 3 times the bedrooms.
