I could be wrong of course...the ones I'm familiar with don't cook in-house

Not sure if all have stopped making them in-house but trucking in the food seems to be more the norm now. I remember when they'd advertise about making the donuts. Even some of the older DDs that used to make them in-house stopped doing it. Same thing goes for fountain drinks; it seems like most DDs have gone to bottle soft-drinks, rather than fountain drinks.

I brew my coffee at home and only treat myself to donuts once a month or so.

As far as I know, Goose Creek doesn't even have a Starbucks. If I was craving a Starbucks, I'd have to go to Summerville or North Charleston. It isn't often that you can find a DD closer than Starbucks but that is how it is where my home is located.

I prefer my home-brewed coffee anyday....

if they are anything like Krispy Kreme (the best ever) then they cook them all at one shop, then distribute to the other places in the lowcountry

DD is good but KK blows them away IMHO

NYC's DD munchkins were excellent, but they aren't the same down here for some reason...

KK is the best ever! I've tried DD a couple times, and do like their coffee, but don't get the appeal of their donuts...

The donuts are not the appeal, it's that damn coffee!

Bagels are pretty good, too. I love their vanilla chai as well.

I like DD donuts better than Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme's donuts are weird.

Speaking of donuts, aside from that fancy place on King, who has the best and biggest donuts in town? Is that question worthy of a patented Rory-best-of thread?

KK's factory stores are the only place to eat them. The stand alone stores with conveyors supply their surrounding areas. Dunkin can't say that. These are the only KK outlet I grew up with. Back then they didn't carry them in grocery stores, gas stations, or anywhere else. If you wanted a KK, you went to the Krispy Kreme...they made them in the store and still do. Love it.

Nothing better than a hot glazed right off the belt. I always ask for one just out of the enrober.

Back in high school we would have many fund raiser days with students/clubs selling KKs. I remember one day they showed up during my horticulture class. The were still warm in the boxes. I ate a full dozen during the class...no joke.

I find most folks either like yeast doughnuts or cake doughnuts and don't really enjoy the other. I can take or leave a cake doughnut...but a fresh KK yeast doughnut is something very special.
