We too are relocating, & have the same wants & desires as u as far as family friendliness, schools, beaches, etc. I too am struggling w / where to settle & wanted to know if you've found anything more out in your quest for an ideal place to start a new home? What's better??? N. Charleston, Summerville or Mt. Pleasant?
Thanks

We have not moved yet, but are pretty decided on Mt. Pleasant. Where are you moving from? We know we will probably get less house than Summerville but we are okay with that for the sake of everything being right at our fingertips with the beach, downtown and great schools.

If youre moving to Charleston ...and if you cant ... or don't want ... downtown ... then Mt Pleasant should be your first choice. Perfect for a young family yet easily accessible to the beach .. downtown .. shopping .. good schools .. and 20 mins to Boeing if your close to 526. Daniel Island also has quite a few Boeing folks ...but doesn't have the range of housing prices that MTP would have.

The issue with school in Mt. Pleasant is over-crowding, though if the tax-extension passes in November that may be less of an issue. The schools are great mind you just a bit packed. Of course it will probably be another 5 years before the new Wando is built and by then the new Center for Advanced Studies will probably be more more than filled and they will have even more trailers than they do now.

Wescott and Coosaw plantation are great places! Same district. I live in McKewn, which is right next to Wescott.

If you're looking for recommendations in Charleston, then you will probably want to ask in the Charleston forum and use this thread:

Moving to the Charleston area?- Relocatees, Look For Answers Here First!

But I think over all it really depends on what your kids like to do. If they enjoy the mountains.. then Greenville is probably more their speed. If they enjoy water related activities then Charleston. If they are indifferent, then maybe Irmo (Columbia). Small town? Suburbia? Urban? I'd focus on what you want first, then find what fits those needs best. Take the time to make a list, write it down, and put a value weight on each item.. Oh.. and don't forget the job part.. you might want that first..

Good luck!
