In my book, Hyman's gets extra points for being in business since Benjamin Harrison was President. In the same hands through 5 generations, you will probably be personally greeted by a member of their Family. That counts for something with me. They didn't buy all those Celebrity Photos at a Yard Sale.
Last time we ate there I had the Bourbon Shrimp, and it was good. Sure, they direct you out through their Gift Shop, but that doesn't bother me at all.

Reason: spelling
I took my mom to Toast for Mothers Day. It was the first time I had been and I liked it a lot.
I'll have to White Knight for Hymans as well. Its not Hanks but it doesn't pretend to be. Hyman's functions as a tourist trap because its actually a perfectly good restaurant. And they do a have a decent selection of fish they will prepare multiple ways, I go maybe once a year when its not tourist season. Its the type of place you hit with out of town people and you don't have to worry about kids being out of place or old people being fussy. If you want ambiance head elsewhere...
I'm not sure I would agree with your assessment John. Perhaps if you're a huge fan of your fish fried, but I think there are better places for locally sourced fish.
I eat very little fried seafood other then oysters and clams. Their crispy whole baked flounder is to die for. I hope they still have it.
It looks like you eat more fried seafood than you think. That flounder is fried
When I say I basically do not eat fired foods, allow me to clarify. I mean batter dip and deep fried ala onion rings, fired chicken, etc. versus pan fried like a hamburger patty (which I will be cooking this evening). I do not recall Hyman's crispy whole Flounder to batter dipped then deep fried ala Fish and Chips.
We're going to be on Daniel Island today and looking for a late lunch. The menu at Tropical Cafe looks interesting.....but I don't see prices anywhere online. This worries me because I'd hate to a bill for a $20 Mango Sandwich.
My DW declared The Trop to be a risky proposition. We re-booted and went to Vickery's in keeping with her motto "When in Doubt, Give Vickery's a Shout"
An absolutely beautiful blue sky Carolina Day to eat lunch on the Deck. I had their Jerk Chicken Sandwich with a raspberry mayonaisse spread and their lowcountry Black Beans and Rice. Sweetness had the VIX Burger, minus the bun. A great way to start the Memorial Day Weekend !!
Hen and the Goat. Their French toast is perfect, every time.
