It's easier for the scums in northern charlotte (you know the areas) to get to. That's why University City has it's issues. The bulk of the problems come from some of the more "questionable" neighborhoods not far away. Easy interstate escape routes help proliferate crime too.
Yeah and that's no lie. Let's just hope that northlake doesn't take the path of eastland an turn from a good neighborhood with a good mall to a bad neighborhood with a good mall that's ruined by the bad neighborhood. Northlake is a fine place but I also know that when taking the bus there. You have to ride from the transit thru charlottes most ghetto neighborhoods on its most ghetto bus.
Northlake is on the edge of several marginal areas. Car break ins are nothing new. I use to work at harris grille. Now hickory tavern, and we had car break ins on almost a weekly basis, and that was in a good economy. Its always the same someone leaving something on the seat in plain view. My truck looks like a pig pen, and the main reason is when the thief looks in he goes wtf. Nothing good in there!
unfortunately the mall was built in a very shady area. It is a shame because the mall itself is very nice and there are alot of good restaurants and stores around.
If they do not get a handle on things then it will become eastland mall all over again.
North Lake is my go-to mall unless I want something specific from one of the high-end shops at South Park. I'm kind of surprised so many people consider it dangerous/trashy. I've been there at all times of the day and evening, by myself, and never once felt threatened by a person or my general surroundings.
Sure, it has your typical rude teenagers and petty crimes, but I haven't noticed more rude teenagers than at any other mid-price-point mall and most crime reports are crimes of opportunity just like the OP posted here. IMO most malls fall into either the "luxury" mall category like South Park (Louis Vuitton, St. Johns, Hermes) or the "regular" mall category like North Lake (more cheap stores catering to teens), and the atmosphere of North Lake seems very representative of other regular malls across the country.
I agree 100% with what JanuaryGirl just said...I've only been there a couple times but I've been to a lot of malls and it's pretty much just your average mall that you see in many places across the country.

Not a fan of the type who roam the mall with nothing better to do
You must not like most 12-16 year olds then.
