I am currently living in Miami (relocated from the Bay Area in 98) but now that that I am married and have a child we want to move to a more family friendly area. I have received offer letters from companies in Charlotte and Austin, TX. The salary is 10% higher in Austin but the benefits are better in Charlotte. Can someone help me compare both cities, the pros and cons ? I have heard that the air quality in Charlotte is pretty bad (almost as bad as LA) but I have also heard some wonderful things about NC. Any thoughts are welcomed.. Thanks !

i've visited teh city twice and I cannot say that the air quality is like LA...and I live in Detroit.

I was very pleased at how fresh the air was...

Austin is cool except we want pro sports so we ultimately chose CLT - good luck!

Our air here can hardly be compared to LA for Pete's sake. We've had about 15 code orange days this year, and only 3 code reds - no code purples. Here's a site that might interest you:

Amen, sister. My goodness, the exaggerations I hear on here are amazing. I am sorry you are hearing such things, OP.

Austin is more artsy. Our govt wasted their money on a trip to Austin only to realize that Charlotte and Dallas have more in common (both financial areas).

Austin is in Texas. For me, that's the end of the story and the decision right there. Charlotte, hands down!
