How does it work then? Don't colleges have a limited number of acceptances?
There's a limit but it's not a hard number. Almost every college overenrolls every semester because a certain number of students always drop out, along with students who get accepted by multiple schools. Offering a spot to one kid doesn't automatically mean some other kid doesn't get in.
These old articles don't cite any official sources for these numbers but the it does prove that people who are against illegal aliens being given rights and amnesty, are not racist. i.e. there are illegals from all cultures & racists.
Well, I'd imagine it would be difficult to get official sources for the number of illegal immigrants. Obviously, most numbers dealing with this topic are estimates and I would say this particular statistic is fairly credible.
Also, it should be noted that the articles (which I wouldn't call particularly old) say that the illegal Irish can get jobs pretty easily without much scrutiny. Wonder why...?

Irish people are highly skilled and educated having come from an Anglo Saxon society that's been industrialized even before the USA. I can see where such skills would be in high demand.

Today, this tiny corner in the northern reaches of the Bronx is perhaps the most heavily Irish-born neighborhood in New York, and advocates believe that as many as 40% of local immigrants are undocumented. "In 2006, the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform (ILIR) estimated that there were 50,000 illegal Irish workers in the U.S. ILIR testified that Ireland received 160 Diversity Visas out of a global total of 50,000 and approximately 2,000 Green Cards from a global total of 1 million."
Actually this isn't new about the Irish. I remember reading, many years ago, in an investigative piece in the Philadelphia Inquirer, about a very high number of illegal Irish, on the east coast. Many of them were wanted in the UK for IRA activities.

You must be Irish...
even if they are highly skilled and educated aren't they still illegal? LOL...
...and people wonder why Latinos are frustrated at being the face of illegal immigration. Illegal is illegal.
If I go to Mexico or another country without papers, I get locked up, simple. I have no right there to education, healthcare, welfare.

Actually there's a thriving medical tourism economy in northern Mexico thanks to Americans who cross the border for cheaper medicine and procedures. All because of that nasty socialized medicine they got down there.
Unreal...make that type of sweeping stereotypical generalization about any other race and you'd be publicly flogged and thrown in a progressive re programing camp for the politically incorrect.
But since it's about a race of white people it's A-OK.
