Yeah, I saw this on the news. Another invasion of people rights. I don't think dodging taxes is right, but truly one does not need to be police by this new machinery.

You are right.
It is not the place of ANY LE to do this. But the sheep march on with the excuses and winks. There is nothing positive about it.

Which right is being violated? 4th amendment? Privacy?

Who's job is it to enforce the payment of vehicle taxes? Isn't it law that you have to pay your vehicle property taxes? Who enforces that law? What happens when a car is pulled over for a traffic violation? Do the police check if the taxes have been paid at that time and then do something if they haven't? If they do check then I would think it's within the jurisdiction of the police. If not, then your are correct. Someone else should be doing that job.

Just as it is not the responsibility of LE to protect an individual it is not their responsibility to play "tax man".
In Mecklenburg county, criminal law enforcement generally falls into the hands of the Charlotte or town police departments. The Sherriff's office in this county has the role of running the jails, acting as court officers, and seizing property for unpaid taxes, evictions, etc. If the tax office moves to seize property for unpaid taxes, the Sheriff's dept. legally are the only ones that can do it for them.
Seems to me that if people cannot get away with non payment of taxes, then, the collection of said taxes would be easier.
I think that it is only fair to those of us that pay the taxes on time. Do not see what what rights have been violated. If you don't pay your taxes, you give up the right to stay anonymous.
