Matthews-based Harris Teeter Supermarkets will launch two upscale specialty grocery stores in the Charlotte area called 201central, a move that comes after Whole Foods recently opened its first store in the area. The stores will be slightly smaller than most Harris Teeter stores and focus on wine, beer, cheese and international items.

Sounds like they named the place for the address where their first store was located on Central Ave.
It says that in the article, but 201 is the store number, not the address.

Well Wesley Chapel is still an upscale area, but I think a main reason was that these locations are only steps away from existing HT locations (although I believe there are a couple others almost as close, such as Ballantyne which would probably be a good spot for one of these types of stores).
That particular location in Huntersville is right next to Birkdale Village, near The Peninsula, and very close to all the lake front housing in Mecklenburg. i.e. There is a lot of money nearby and HT has an empty store to fill so that locale does make sense. I'll probably go over there to see what they have though they will have some competition.
I don't see putting one of these in Union County, but then again, it sounds as if that is still just a plan.
I doubt that. said 3100 wine selections. thats huge. it will survive on that alone. I know I'll be shopping there.
Maybe...like I said, I guess we'll see.
According to the article seems rather wine/alcohol centered....even selling home brewing equipment. I'm sure they've done their homework but I still have doubts. I guess if they can hit a niche that's not being served right now (home brewers, smaller label beers, etc) then folks may drive to check it out. I guess I still remember the high aspirations for Hannaford's in this market. Remember them?
Will be interesting to see how it does. Will it be a case of a company trying too hard to differentiate itself from competitors while losing focus on the core business? Time will tell.
