If you want things exactly the way they were where you are coming from, then why move in the first place?

My wife likes BBQ from one place. Jesus could open up a pit, and she would put it down in comparison with her favorite.

I ask her all the time, "Is the food good?" and the answer is "Yes," so I say, then don't call it BBQ and compare, call it BOBALOU and think of it as a new food, but it is a GOOD new food.

Just don't get it!

I've had amazing real Mexican food at a dinky hole in the wall in Boston which is pretty darn far away from the Mexican border.

See, I think people should embrace what a city/region has to offer, but I also don't think there is anything to gain from things remaining stagnant and unchanging, just because it's how it's been done til now. i think that if Charlotte continues to grow as it is, there will reach a point of demand for more diversity in restaurant offerings that make it an economic viability for investors to open those restaurants.
I've had good mexican food in Charlotte but I won't ever complain about not having Memphis BBQ, Chicago Deep Dish, Philly Cheese steak, NY Pizza or Pittsburgh chipped ham.

If any of those things become available in Charlotte I would try it but its insane to get upset or knock a city for not having another cities version of mexican or bbq.

I just think its backazzwards to move somewhere and complain about the region not having food from where you just moved.

I agree that complaining and getting upset about it is silly, but it's a far cry from, "Gee, I have a mad craving for Memphis BBQ/Mexican/Chicago Deep Dish etc. It sure would be nice if there was somewhere local I could get it that doesn't require me to hop on a plane or road trip across country!"

I crave foods I grew up with often enough that aren't readily available in the USA in most places, and I don't whine or knock where I live now because of it, but I still do occasionally really wish I could more easily get what I'm craving. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Crave all you want but please dont blame the city or call it lame because they dont have what you grew up eating.

Is your entire family in SoCal and is your DH's entire family there? Charlotte is a long way from home for you. If you are looking for less expensive, there are closer options for you.

We moved from Los Angeles. It was a really hard adjustment, and truth be told, if it were still up to me, I would move back. BUT, Dh and the kids love it here, so we will be staying. It isn't all bad at all, I just feel more at home on the West Coast.

Charlotte has things to offer, particularly if you enjoy being with friends. People are very friendly here. Sometimes it is sincere, sometimes it isn't. But you will most likely miss the close proximity of a beach to go to. The weather isn't nearly as good and there are bugs. Lots and lots of bugs.

What are the differences between San Diego Mexican food and Charlotte Mexican food?

Sorry... my response was poorly worded and should have been directed to those who crave AND blame the city.

Yep, some people just like to complain. I do like to give the benefit of the doubt though if it's very infrequent from someone that maybe, they're just homesick.

People can be notoriously awful about communicating what is really bothering them!
