Charlotte is a large suburb, The city is not growing, just knocking down something a rebuilding a apartment complex.
The city limits are further out there but the city is not growing. Charlotte just builds the same housing development and shopping center over and over and calls it growing.
The Big Boxes will close in the old shopping center and re-open in the new shopping center. Thats not growing.
Wow - So you think all those parking lots/empty lots vanishing in uptown for things like Romare Bearden Park, the Knights Stadium, Skyhouse, UNC Charlotte uptown building, 300 South Tryon, Fountains at Stonewall, are the result of the city *ahem* "knocking down something"
First look at 1 Brevard condo tower planned for uptown
The development team behind the proposed 1 Brevard condo tower in uptown Charlotte is kicking off sales for the project this evening with hopes of breaking ground early next year on the 29-story development.
Boston-based developer Greg Rudolph of RTG Holdings and his longtime business partner, Robert Gunnof Gunn Financial, are planning to build the condo tower, the first in uptown Charlotte since the recession, at the corner of Brevard and Fourth streets. Plans for Crescent’s NoDa Station development released
NoDa News released the first look at design plans for Crescent’s NoDa Station, a mixed-use residential and commercial development at the 36th Street stop on the Blue Line extension.
The development will include 6,000 square feet of street level retail and flexible outdoor spaces for food truck rallies, markets and music events.
Planned residential amenities include a beer garden, saltwater pool, dog park and rooftop terrace.
Construction will begin late this year with availability of the first units set to coincide with the opening of the light rail’s 36th Street Station in early 2017
Beacon Partners starting work on seven-story office and retail building
Beacon Partners is breaking ground this week for 500 East Morehead, a seven-story office building with ground-floor retail on East Morehead Street, next door to the Dowd YMCA.
The commercial real estate firm expects to start demolition today on a vacant, 44,000-square-foot building at the 2.5-acre site. The demolition process will take six to eight weeks, says Mike Harrell, a partner with Beacon, and will be followed by vertical construction of the building, which will total 180,000 square feet and will feature 15,000 square feet of retail space. The development, at the intersection of East Morehead and South Caldwell streets, is expected to be complete by November 2016.

I find it somewhat unusual for the governor to be in Charlotte for an office building groundbreaking unless there is an announcement of a major tenant for that building.
