The city limits are further out there but the city is not growing. Charlotte just builds the same housing development and shopping center over and over and calls it growing.

The Big Boxes will close in the old shopping center and re-open in the new shopping center. Thats not growing.
Wow - So you think all those parking lots/empty lots vanishing in uptown for things like Romare Bearden Park, the Knights Stadium, Skyhouse, UNC Charlotte uptown building, 300 South Tryon, Fountains at Stonewall, are the result of the city *ahem* "knocking down something"

OK!

Beacon Partners starting work on seven-story office and retail building

Beacon Partners is breaking ground this week for 500 East Morehead, a seven-story office building with ground-floor retail on East Morehead Street, next door to the Dowd YMCA.
The commercial real estate firm expects to start demolition today on a vacant, 44,000-square-foot building at the 2.5-acre site. The demolition process will take six to eight weeks, says Mike Harrell, a partner with Beacon, and will be followed by vertical construction of the building, which will total 180,000 square feet and will feature 15,000 square feet of retail space. The development, at the intersection of East Morehead and South Caldwell streets, is expected to be complete by November 2016.

615 South College tower breaking ground Aug. 14

Uptown’s newest office tower has an official start date: Friday, Aug. 14.
That’s when Portman Holdings and Trinity Partners plan to “break ground” on 615 South College, a 19-story office tower planned next to the Westin hotel. The building is planned to go on top of a parking garage, so there won’t be literal ground to break.

The ceremony next week is scheduled to include Gov. Pat McCrory and Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter
Building expected to be complete by late 2016

I find it somewhat unusual for the governor to be in Charlotte for an office building groundbreaking unless there is an announcement of a major tenant for that building.
