No, I'm saying there is ZERO chance money was not involved. You don't bypass voters, the public and get a project of this magnitude through that quickly without some serious incentives involved.

Oh,OK. I misread your response. Sorry. Yeah, the casino is still dangling in limbo, when 4000 jobs are directly tied to it because he gets money from the Cherokee Nation, & that was proven 2 years ago. Better yet, he didn't show up for the groundbreaking of the NTE plant because that's probably going to ding him too.

I really, really hope that you folks can get proof of the money trail on this.

No doubt the private firm will complete the widening much, much quicker than the NCDOT but at a substantially higher price than just the contract value as compared to the future of Charlotte and potential growth.
Are you suggesting that citizens directly vote on which road projects get built?

No one will drive on the toll lanes unless the regular lanes are congested.

The state now has a financial incentive to make sure that the regular lanes stay a grid-lock for 50 years.

They will want people to have the toll lanes as the only viable method of travel, and they are going to suck every dollar they can out of you in the process. This is nothing about easing congestion, its all about figuring out a way to profit off of it.

What amazes me is the fact that this concept has been in the discussion/planning stage going back to about 2008. Of course now with construction ready to go and local politicians who supported lost their seats in the recent municipal elections, now you have the state elected officials clamoring for a review of the project. Where were these idiots' objections to this project when it was being proposed. The only reason they are now opposing it is the fear that they will lose their seats next year. Most of them are part of this ignorantly led Republican legislature and need to be thrown out of office regardless. And the same to the citizens opposing this project. My gut feeling is that 95% of these morons never took the time to follow this project on the NCDOT's website.

Tillis is sitting on a 6 year term unless someone can find the money trail.

What you say is exactly the reason why it will be successful. People just keep moving to Lake Norman and there will be more and more people who will pay for the tolls in order to save 5-10 minutes on their commute. I too wish they were adding free lanes but this is one toll project that I see generating a decent amount of revenue.

Like someone mentioned above, when these tolls were first being proposed several years ago. O one said anything. In the business of building highways it's very difficult to get the DOT to change course once the best proposal has been selected and construction is about to begin. The people who objected to the tolls simply waited too long to act. So this is what it's going to be.

We just voted on road projects in Mooresville. A voice of the people should be a factor, clearly it was not in this case, whether via a vote or even forums to discuss BEFORE the decision is made and contract signed.

I agree. I believe that we were more committed to this project than we realize. It is possible that he could have done something and I would like his explanation of why he didn't. I wonder what Tillis got out of this?
