Whatever man, I'm 24. I think at 21, you oughta be acclimated with redneck kids, or at least kids who pretend to be rednecks.

Yep. I see nothing wrong with others choosing that lifestyle.

Yep, it was cool when I was in high school. I had a Toyota with 33x12.50 super swampers on it. How else were you going to get out to field parties when it rains??

Yeah.. I used to literally play in the mud. It's lots of fun, maybe you oughta try it.

It is the confederate flag thing that bothers me the most, and that they think being a redneck is "cool". Get an education and get a job and be useful to society.
I know plenty of rednecks with college degrees and jobs. They are useful to society - where do you think that food you eat comes from? Manhattan?

Some people say it is heritage, but come on. These kids were all born in the late 1980's. They are AMERICANS. They should be proud to be AMERICAN.
Who says they aren't proud to be American? I seriously doubt the confederate flag is anti-American to these boys.

Don't approve? That is your right. Was it also not your right not to move into an environment that you don't approve of?

Did she marry you as a form or rebellion against her southern upbringing? You seem to be a couple of winners. LOL.

I was always under the impression that the Condederacy was at war against an invading force from the north? Damn, to think that all of those southern farmboys fighting the war were anarcists that had the whole objective of overthrowing the U.S. government. Wait until I tell those silly history professors that it wasn't about secession it was about overthrowing the U.S. government.

A little trivia for you. There was never a slave brought to the U.S. or sold in the U.S. under the Confederate battle flag. It was all done under our stars and stripes. The reason the Condederate battle flag was developed was to make a destinguishable difference in appearance between the U.S. flag and the Southern flag. They looked too confusing on the battlefield and one side frequently fired upon his comrads by mistake. The flag represents rebellion. That is why the flag used to be associated with characters like James Dean, Elvis and other "rebels" of their time. I have seen the confederate flag in gift shops in London and other large cities world wide. It certainly isn't there to represent hate towards northern Americans or blacks. I was in Ireland last Summer and saw a couple of vehicles displaying them. There are other connotations associated with the flag other than racism which doesn't really really make any clear connection. You shouldn't be so shallow. Should everyone that has a differing opinion from you or your wife be shunned? This is a big diverse world. Charlotte is a diverse city. Let people do what they want if it doesn't bother you. You are probably from some small town in the north. You are not there now. Better accept people as they are in different places or you will live a miserable life. As I said in a past posting, I have a room that I display the flag along with confederate memorabelia and I love southerners, northerners and people of all races. What's the problem?

As far as eastern block communist countries being dead, have you heard of Putin? Don't hold your breath. There are many in the old republics that want to go back to the way it was before. But again, you probably don't know history very well?

Mmmmmmmmm, OK, but now as an adult let us assume that he is not somehow indentured laborer, which means that he would perfectly free to leave.

Ya'll are all being too hard on Mike - he is a college student, he can't just get up and leave. Plus he never said he wanted to as there are many things he has said he likes about living here. It just so happens this one issue about the way some kids are being (to use an out of date term) "posers" about their heritage bothers him - that's what he dislikes about living here. Plus he just doesn't understand the appeal of the lifestyle of four wheeling and such - feel sorry for him but don't condemn him.

You don't have to feel sorry for me. I am GLAD am I nothing like that. Really, there is nothing to be sorry about. Otherwise, thanks for your understanding.
