Oh! I love drive-ins! (a dying breed for sure though - as the land they sit upon becomes far to valuable, the owner succumbs to their low-profit buisness and eventually sells out...making more room for..so-called progress )
But there are a few that are still hanging on. Anybody been to the Belmont or Badin Road Drive-In?
Admission (from what I understand the owner does not make money on the movies but relies soley on the snack bar)
My family LOVES the drive in in Belmont!!! Where else can 6 people see two features for 8 bucks?? The movies they play are not seconds, but are in the regular theaters. They always seem to have a good crowd. I would encourage everyone to check it out- hate to lose a gem like this!!
I would open up a specialty shop that sells top quality wines (from all over the world) and beer (imports and domestic microbrews), and I would have a tasting bar in it. I would also have a top quality cigar lounge and offer top quality cigars as well. It would be a one stop place that would be very nice inside w/ lounge areas, a cool looking bar to set at, a couple of high end Plasma TVs, a piano that would have someone playing soft jazz on it. I would also offer special trips to different great wine regions around the world. I would probably offer gourmet cheeses and crackers to go with it all.
I could put it in an area w/ some galleries and nice non chain restaraunts. Of course, it would be near Uptown, maybe even in Uptown. If not in it, either Southend or Noda would work.
Oh, Anifani, we need to have a brainstorming meeting over a glass of wine.
Did I hear "glass of wine???" Brainstorming is always good, StM!!! Yes, need to get together and explore what the universe might have for us out there . . . ya never know!!!!
If money were no object, what type of business would you launch?
I would have a 100 percent authentic British pub. It would have the tables and chairs and dartboards like in the U.K. I would have sausages and crisps available at the bar and picture of the Queen along side of Stewie Griffith. If that didn't work, I would open a hotel on the lake sort of like Fawlty Towers. I have seen a few guys around that could be Manual.
Looking at their website, I personally think one could do something similar w/ much less start up costs. Smoothies, coffee, various yogurts, fruits, cereals . . . and internet access. I just can't see pouring $250,000 into a franchise. I would rather spend some $$ on equipment, small store-front lease, furnishings/fixtures and stock. Then you come up w/ your own version - and sell franchises to others, Hee Hee.
If you really like the idea, why don't you research it - but not as a franchise.
an italian pastry shop with homemade biscotti, cookies, cakes, etc. for all those transplanted NY/NJ people! and for the really special customers, we'd have a trade route from NY to NC for Arthur Ave. bread, real mozz, sausage, cold cuts and other delicacies.
I really have no desire to start my own business....but I can come up with ideas for others!
