Well, I do miss CA a lot. And quite frankly, what I miss most is my job......so that may be why I feel so passionately about pointing out the differences. There are other things I like better here in NC, but I miss my CA job.
I have actually met teachers here who wish there were a union, so I am not sure that I would classify wanting a union a value to Charlotte thing, but maybe it is.
I was never a strong Union person in CA. I never needed their services other than for contracts, pay increases and health benefits. But I did witness several instances with others where the union was used quite a bit. I think there is good and bad with both issues (having a union and not having one).

North Carolina, and the south in general, won't be like California, as there are major differences in the people, way of life, ect... To those of us here, that is a good thing. That unions don't thrive here is a good thing, to us. For those who choose to come here and embrace the differences I applaud you - just like the people in California would probably applaud me if I moved there and embraced their local values. It just makes me cringe to see people move here to take advantage of all the wonderful things we have here, then critisize or malign us for not doing things such and such a way, like they did back wherever it was they came from. Sorry if I pounced - didn't mean to hurt your feelings, truly.
