I was just in Hollywood Video on Johnston rd. Manager stated that they are no longer getting new releases in and that all Hollywood Videos are selling inventory out. She said that they will not be around much longer.

^^^ Well, the video rental business isn't really a victim of the economy as much as it is a victim of new competition. Netflix, Redbox, video-on-demand, and torrent downloads have all eroded Hollywood's business. I wonder how long Blockbuster can hang on.

A large buffet place (Ryan's, IIRC) opened recently nearby and it is packed everytime I ride by.

It is not all doom and gloom.
It's a Golden Corral. I've heard good things about that location. I haven't been, though.

Default I have also noticed...

a lot of businesses are closing in the Plaza Midwood area. It is sad all the specialty shops are closing which will force everyone to shop the big guys or choose a similar service online.

The Blockbuster closed off of Eastway Drive, we switched to Netflix.

What happened to Bombay Cuisine on Park Rd? They just opened in (or around) July and just last month I noticed they were closed.

BOTH Golden Coral and Texas Roadhouse are new in Matthews on 74.
BOTH are packed most evenings when I commute home.
