Hey! I'm new to the CD board but have enjoyed reading the past posts. I do have a quick question to toss out there. I live in the Matthews/South Char. part of town and work Uptown. The commute on 485 and parking expenses are killing me!

Do any of you know of good companies down this way that might be hiring (might be a long shot these days)?

Happy Halloween to everyone!

I've been in marketing for about 9 years with one of the financial institutions in town - would like to stay in that area but am open to considering other options. Let me know if you have any ideas on good companies in the south part of town!

In the meantime, taking the bus could cut out the parking expense - there is a Matthews Express bus, one that goes down Carmel, a Rea Rd one, an Aroboretum express...I ride one and it's so much nicer than fighting the traffic - I've read a lot of books in the last couple of years!!

How much time does it add to ride the bus? Meaning if you have to be at work by 8am, what time do you get on the bus?

I take the 40X - if I catch it out in Mint Hill (Lawyers & Margaret Wallace) it takes about 30-35 minutes to get Uptown. The nice thing about the Matthews, Independence, Idlewild and Albemarle Expresses is that there is that dedicated lane out from 277 that cuts a lot of time off.

Anyone take the Rea Rd one? Wondering how long that would take to get uptown.

If you check the CATS site they do a pretty good job of getting Uptown when they're scheduled to and the pick up and arrival times should give you a pretty good idea of how long in between.

My DH takes 61X from Promenade at Providence. The first bus leaves at 6.05AM and reaches uptown 6.45AM. The last bus leaves at 7.34AM and reaches 8.40AM. So depends... the earlier bus you take the earlier you reach. The bus is oriented for people working at uptown from the south. Similarly there are only a couple of buses in the evening. Monthly pass is cheaper and cost can be found from the CATS website.
