BofA laying off 10's of thousands, Wachovia will be laying off `10,'s of thousands.

The unemployment rate in CLT is going to go thru the roof.

You think maybe Charlotte can get those textile mill jobs back?

There are many non-banking/financial companies in Charlotte.

You have to admit that Charlotte does not have a very diverse economy.

I toured that Lance plant back in the 70's when I was in the Cub Scout. Interesting place.

This is true but the 10's of thousands of employees being laid off will be distributed nationwide and are not all in Charlotte.

While still in school Lance had summer jobs for students ... hubby got a job there for the summer ... in cheese cracker packing ... conveyor belt with cheese crackers moving speedily along and one had to manually pack the crackers in a box for shipping ... the conveyor belt did not stop ... cheese crackers keep moving moving moving fast and you have to keep packing ... if perchance during that time period you happen to buy a pack of cheese crackers and they were broken or crushed ... that was his ... he packed them!!

Cotton is King is gone forever ... the textile mills will never return ... I just hope and pray the banking catastrophe doesn't hurt Charlotte too bad.
