Another vote for Mint Hill, although I live just outside of it (somehow officially Indian Trail, despite being off exit 44.
Some nice steady commercial development, as well. Hawthorne's is a great addition to Mint Hill, BTW. I believe Mint Hill has a tradition requiring larger lots, although I agree that they most common price points are significantly higher than the OP was looking for.
