Indeed. Many of us remember those kinds of temps without fondness. That is why we moved south!!

Thankfully, cold spells like this one only come once every 20 years of so!

I lived in VT for a brief period as a child and the record low that winter was -60 . It flurried in June or July (can't remember exactly what month it was.) When it got into the 50s or 60s, we broke out the shorts! The schools NEVER closed due to the snow.

Wow it a warm 31 degrees. I remember after 9/11 I thought well I could become a refugee in Canada. Being frozen is better than being blown up.

Burrrrrrrrrr, very cold today. Don't forget to check your heaters for dust..etc. Had a few calls this week for Carbon Monoxide and such. Be safe! Check your equipment.

LOL, I remember being in Vegas one time and I want to say it was warm outside because DH and I were hysterical because some woman had to prance around the casino in her fur, guess she just had to show it off.

Ok, as I sit here typing I keep seeing neighbors out doing thier laps/exercise around the sub division, diehards.

I really want to go to HD or Lowe's and get some hanging winter pansi pots to replace my dead ferns that are still hanging on the front porch bu it's just too cold. I know I have to go out tomorrow so guess I'll do it then.

I do predict that a lot of South Carolina based coastal plants, palmetto trees, oleander, hibiscus, etc, that have been planted here in Charlotte are all gonna bite the dust if this weather holds and the ground freezes some. They just can't take it. Maybe it will run the recently arrived fire ants back down there too. If you have anything like this planted in your yard, I recommend taking some steps to protect them.

-----------------------

I do enjoy a change of weather like this as it really isn't that severe. I did a stint for a while in S. Florida and I can tell you the boring monotonous weather day after day really isn't that nice. We are fortunate in Charlotte that we see all 4 seasons and none of them are really that severe. We can thank Mr. Mountain for that some which shunts all that cold air coming down from Canada through the midwest away from us. (most of the time)
That is why experts and wise people warn against planting subtropical plants in Charlotte or central NC. It's far too cold for them to survive in perpetuity.
