24 over...sounds like you're more dangerous than the semi you were passing.
Good luck!
oh just stop. quit being the moral police. For the poster hire an NC Lawyer. It will cost about 200 bucks. He will go to court, and get it lowered to a lesser charge. You will pay the fine, and have less points on your record than the current charge, and might have no points. Bottomline pay the money get the lawyer. Its a racket, but you broke the rules, so you gotta play by their rules.

So you ok with people driving that fast over the speed limit?

Driving is a privilege, not a right. Can't even begin to count how many times I have seen near accidents because people are driving too fast, not obeying speed signs, not signaling, etc.
If the justice system isn't going to penalize them for their actions then I sure am going to tell them what I think about their behavior when they post on a public forum.

cheers!

yep fine with it. Open highway. This world has big problems speeding on the interstate isn't one of them. Do it down park rd then I have a problem with it. Everything isn't always black and white

Respect your opinion. Open highway sure but shared with others who are using it.
Depending on what site you look at speeding is in the top 3 causes of accidents in the U.S. Sounds like a big issue to me, but hey, that's just my opinion.

To me if someone is willing to behave that way on the highway, they are going to do it anywhere.
Hopefully they realize not everyone is ok with them driving like that and they think twice about it in the future.

Speeding doesn't cause any accidents. Idiots making mistakes do. However, blowouts and vehicle problems do occur. Speeding does make crashes more severe.

Why can you drive 100mph+ on the Autobahn, but it's not safe to do so in the US? Probably because our drivers suck here.

If anything, slowpoke old farts are more of a danger to society than speeders. Slowpokes cause everyone to have to merge around.

In a study by the NHTSA 94% of crashes were caused by driver error. That Driver Error is broken down into several categories; Recognition error (41%), Decision error (33%), Performance error (11%), Non-performance error (7%), and Other (8%)

Excerpt from a NHTSA report on Decision Error:

"Decision error such as driving too fast for conditions, too fast for the curve, false assumption of others’
actions, illegal maneuver and misjudgment of gap or others’ speed accounted for about 33 percent (±3.7%) of the crashes."

By this data, yes, speeding can be a causation for accidents. I agree that drivers making mistakes also are a big part of accidents and is reflected somewhere in the above data breakout.

I'd argue that your example of speeding on the Autobahn and speeding on I-40 West is quite different. Other drivers aren't expecting someone on I-40 to be going 20+ over the posted while on the Autobahn there are, from my understanding, rules on where and when you can drive as fast as you want along with a cultural understanding of how the road works. Additionally, on the Autobahn drivers are expecting to see potential high speeds on that road. I've never been on the Autobahn so I can't really speak from experience only what I have read.

I don't have a problem with the lower speed limits in mountains (like on I-40). But I do have a problem with low speed limits on straight roads in rural states. It's crazy that the speed limit through a place like Kansas is 70mph.

Also, I do see a problem with people speeding. If anything, the speed limits should be raised slightly so people do not have to speed.

80mph is the average speed on 77S when I drive home at night. The average speed on 485 outer is between 80-90mph. If traffic is light & road conditions are dry I try and keep up with traffic. CMPD & the NC Highway Patrol are both active on 77. They generally deal with the people that want to make driving a hazard for everyone and get them off the road. If I want to go slower I'll plant myself in the middle lane & let traffic flow around me.
