That's just the kind of brunch I like and if not this time then the next.

I'm really looking forward to exploring Chattanooga. How far from the Choo Choo hotel is the River and the Bluff View district--it seems like several blocks maybe walk or drive?--LOL remembering a cold trip to Boston where several blocks seemed like miles.

it is walkable (ask mbmouse)
remember there is the free electric shuttle that stops at the choo choo and will take you over to the aquarium where the bluff view district is a more reasonable walk.

Yay for a Chattanooga Microbrewery!!
I seriously cannot wait for the Terminal Brew house to open. They look like they are getting so close to completing construction. & I detected the scent of beer in the making(smells a bit like crackers or bread cooking).
I love craft beer & sounds like they are going to have some tasty vittles as well!
Here is a lil article if anyone is excited as I am:

That's great. I love their outdoor seating area in the back of the building in the warmer weather. Good food too. They have an excellent spicy hot meatloaf.

I was talking about the food at Hair of the Dog, which is owned by the same owner as the Terminal Brewery. I guess it's going to be open sometime next summer if the remodeling goes as planned. That area around the Choo Choo is really depressed with too many boarded up storefronts. Maybe this will spark more interest in the area. Just down Main Street, a builder is building all new "Green Homes" on lots where older homes have been torn down, so that area is really going to turn around.

Question Good Japanese? - and Bubble Tea!!!

I haven't read through all 5 pages of comments, but I will if necessary.

I am from Seattle but moved to Chattanooga and I am looking for some good Japanese food? I would like someone who is NOT from the south to respond to this. Not to sound prejudice against southerners (wrong place to do that, I know) but I've read reviews of some places around here and everyone seems extremely biased towards sweet food.

Chinese food, Hibachi-Style Japanese food and sushi seem to be the most prominent of the area. I theorize that it is because of the novelty (and simplicity) of hibachi style cooking, with the "show" that the chefs offer, the novelty of sushi, and the Americanization of Chinese food. It's already popular and not "very Chinese" - as I'm sure that the Chinese do not live off sweet and sour pork and fried rice.

I've tried the following:

Sushi Nabe
Ichiban
Shogun
Chef Lin's Buffet

I love Chef Lin but it primarily is the same: sushi, hibachi, and Chinese. Ichiban is the BEST that my boyfriend and I have tried for hibachi. Shogun is good but more average, and Sushi Nabe was fantastic up until they brought me my main dinner - I had the Matsuri Bento. The teriyaki chicken tasted almost downright sugary (not even a typical "tangy" teriyaki flavor), the salmon was lukewarm and not much better, and other than that it was mainly rice. The miso soup was excellent, sushi (California Rolls only) was OK but very small rolls/portion, edamame was great, just disappointed in the main entrees! The owners were extremely friendly and my boyfriend and I theorized that they had sold out to appease the southern tastes because Sushi Nabe had some very good reviews. So if you are a southerner, you'll probably like it. Which is why I want information from the north or at least someone that is well traveled with broad tastes.

Anyone know where some good NON-SWEET Japanese food is, ideally offering the Bento Box variety?

Also, for anyone that's interested in Bubble Tea, or if you've never tried it - I highly recommend Bubble Tea from Hong Kong Express on 5210 Brainerd RD.

It is not like a lot of the bubble teas I'm used to having back in Seattle but mmmm is it good! And they make the "bubbles" PERFECTLY!

ayekantspeylgud, have you tried Seoul on Lee Hwy/Hwy 153? I am also NOT a fan of the sweet stuff and the plainer the better. No sweet and sour for me please. This place is awesome and the owners we love. Try the bulgogi.

By the way, love the name and welcome to you and Spurdie

I have not tried that place. I will have to look into it. Thank you for the recommendation, welcome message, and compliment! By the way, where are you from?

I do like flavor, but nothing that is overly salty and definitely not so sweet! Seriously, who can eat a dessert after eating so much sweet food?

I am going to start a blog with my own experiences from sampling food from places around here. Moving from the Northwest to the Southeast has been quite an experience but I love to try new places and new things so, over the course of just under 3 months, my boyfriend and I have eaten at roughly 34 different places. Granted, this includes one place (Wendy's) that we have back home that I had already tried many a time.

I am pretty much from here give or take a few childhood years in South Dakota, Colorado and Arkansas. Quite the globe trotter eh? lol

There is so much here besides good ol' country cookin' and a few of us who like something besides fried chicken. Not that I will turn up my nose at a gravy bisquit There are quite a few places that I love and not alot of ppl who will go with me so maybe we could try a Freaky Food Friday group too. I love your idea of a blog. Great idea and keep us posted!
