we have Vonage for our residential line here in South Florida, and it has worked well. So well that I want to pull a business line from here and take it up to Chattanooga as well as get a second local business line. Total cost for both business lines would be $63/month (plus tax) which is a real nice price

only one problem...Vonage doesn't have Chattanooga prefixes! Everytime I call their customer service and speak with "Bob" or "Greg" (who all seem to have an Indian accent) they all try to convince me that a 423 area code with a prefix for Morristown will work just fine. But of course I know it won't. At present they can't pull a local line either (I thought about getting a local line and then having Vonage port it)

I have two questions:

1) what would be your impression of a company that had a prefix for Powells Crossroads yet claimed to be located in Chattanooga (that's the closest town that Vonage has numbers for)

2) does anyone use internet phone service. Wondering about the quality of other companies.

thanks for all who respond...this is one of the last pieces of the moving puzzle (except of course the best way to drive 12 hours in the car with the cat, but that's another thread )

what is your Chattanooga pre-fix (if you don't mind me asking) I gave the Vonage rep about 1/2 dozen of them and he said none of them can be ported.

They reason they are saying that is because they do not have a local access uplink to the prefixes you are looking at. Legally, they can move your number to their network but they'd be paying long distance access fees for local numbers that they couldn't bill you in turn for...so the ignorant tech support answer is "We cannot. Slurpee?"

I had sunrocket for personal use in chattanooga. Worked great until they went out of business yesterday Although comcast cable internet does slow down randomly for a while, killing all attempts at using the phone.

Vonage has a sweet offer for SunRocket customers:

Vonage - A better phone service for less (broken link)

I love the turtles (the Slowskys) on the Comcast commercials---they're Comcastic!

are they showing those commercials in Chattanooga?

I have vonage and it uses teh same prefix as Chattanooga 423. It considered a different area, something springs (I forget) and also a long distance call from Chattanooga.
