In the west suburbs, has anyone else noticed that there are no good roads to go north south besides 355... And even that is a pain. I often find myself driving 20 miles on route 59, which takes the same amount of time as going 40 miles on 90 or 88.

I wish there was a more convenient way to get north south.

So do many others. A lack of political gravitas combined with NIMBY power prevented the Fox Valley Expressway from being built. Same situation that exists with the IL 53 extension in Lake County.

I remember the days before I 355 was built. It took a long time to get through that corridor. There was also a plan to build a South Suburban Freeway, roughly along 83, from 290 down to 80. The numerous stillborn transportation plans.

Default highway 355 was extended

i believe 355 south was extended past the 355/55 stevenson interchange. it now extends to I 80. i used to have a job comuting from schaumburg to bannockburn and going west-east on lake cook, willow, or dundee is a mind numbing commute due to lack of infrastructure... . a fox valley western edge, north-south highway loosely from 80 through north aurora, batavia, st charles and lake in the hills, huntley to i-90 would definitely serve the western burbs now and in the future as chicago metro will continue to grow and fill in westward... id like to see a suburban light rail service move passsengers along the same highway like on i-90 and i-290 at some point, kinda like connecting the suburban mall circuit. continued growth even in collar suburbs and small cities like aurora, elgin, naperville do have an effect on overall metro GDP.
