I'll defer to cubsoxfan that I may have erred in calling the Palatine schools "questionable".

I'm waiting for someone to chime in about the quality of the elementary schools in South Berwyn, which I hear have some decent test scores. But I think we can all agree that the Morton Township High Schools are pretty terrible...

It was a joke. Lighten/

Also, note that the OP is likely not looking at having a family in the future, hence the reference to nightlife.

Probably Berwyn though I don't spend much time there. Friends say it's cool. I know taxes are a lot less. I don't know what their schools are like. Forest Park is cheaper too but they have Proviso East which is pretty bad.

Whether or not perspective residents are looking for good schools or not, schools are an important part of what makes places desirable and continually draw people into that place. In this respect, the taxes you pay for good schools are not just to educated someone else's children (if you don't have any), but to retain the desirability and home value of the town.

I may not often agree chitownperson but when it comes to the differentiators between towns / ways to preserve housing values I completely agree that areas with well regarded schools are a smarter long term value that those with poorly performing schools. I also think that residents that demand accountability from all their elected officials to maintain the highest level of service with the most prudent expenditure or local taxes are a key component of the overall value equation that ought to use when comparing the pluses of one town vs another. Taxes that are not inline with expectations will depress propety values.

I'll take schools in Arlington Heights for $1000, Alex.

Has excellent elementary schools in D25 & D23 along with excellent high schools in Hersey & Prospect.

I'll take AH schools over Berwyn schools any day. Would do the same with Palatine and Mt. Prospect. Even Des Plaines, which is considered average to mediocre by NW suburban standards, shines compared with Berwyn schools.

The schools in Arlington Heights are almost universally good, while Berwyn is known for a troubled school district with a handful of schools that are just okay. It would take a visitor almost two minutes in each town to see the different vibes.

True; but many recent posters started discussing Berwyn that I wanted to go back to one of the OP's main criteria: quality schools! Kinda like, why bother talking about that town or city if it misses a main criteria by such a wide margin!!

Wrong thread... This OP says they are childless and don't need schools.
