For context:

My intention to move near Chicago (work location Naperville)

So, in the event I move to Naperville, I did some research for apartments that feed to good schools. Based on my criteria and ranking, I came up with these apartments.

1. Grand Reserve of Naperville (May Watts Elementary?)

2. Brittany Springs (May Watts?)

3. Glenmuir (Arlene Welch?)

4. Thornberry woods (Ranch View Elem.)

I'd greatly appreciate opinions on these apartments OR the schools mentioned - your personal view / experience.

Or if you want to recommend another apartment as long as (a) The elementary school is a 9 or 10 greatschools (let's not argue please ) and (b) I can find units > 1200 sq.ft (I found several apts. with smaller units). Rent is not an issue.

Thanks very much! I'm very looking forward to moving to that area...

I have zero confidence in "great schools" becuase of its policies. I rely on the ISBE Honor Roll for Academic Excellence: Illinois Honor Roll - Academic Excellence Awards 2012 List

I prefer smaller rental situatiins from private landlords over large complexes...

Chet,

Thanks! Had never looked at that and wasn't aware. In any case I'm glad that May Watts and Ranch View appear in that list.

Preference for apartments in my wife's personal preference for a couple of personal factors so I will leave it that way. You have a lot of knowledge on the area so if you have any insights to these places that would be great!

If rent's not a problem, maybe a house rental would be an option?

One thing you'll notice is that school attendance areas with a lot of rentals typically have lower performance.

Question is, where do we find the private landlord listings.

btw, Napersville looks remarkably affordable. What is it like?

Great family oriented place with a beautiful downtown, not so great for bored teens or hipsters. For me, the biggest negative is that it's tripled in population in the 25 years I've lived here so I don't enjoy going downtown as much as I used to. Plus a number of the old stores downtown like City Meat Market and Tasty Bakery have been replaced by your generic yuppie chains.

I know May Watts, it is really a great school from my experience. It is also pretty diverse. At the last birthday party we had white, black, indian and asian kids invited.

Hello, if I were to live there, are there decent apartments within walking distance of school or a train station? It will be my gf, my son and I. In the beginning, we would likely only have one car. I see a lot of apts on FAirway street, any of those within walking distance of an elementary or the train? It could be one or the other.

I wonder if a smaller suburb would be more manageable?
