I had asked this question in another thread but never received an answer. What are the top 10 Chicagoland suburbs in terms of lowest crime rate per city-data?

I couldn't find an easy way to look this up. Also, do these suburbs match the common perception of "safe" suburbs for those living in this area or are there surprises on the list?

Oakbrook, Naperville, Kenilworth, Lake Forest, Barrington, Hindsdale, Winnetka, Wheaton, Itasca, Park Ridge, Bannockburn -
that's 11 (city data stats can give you more details).

Where did you come up with this list? Based on the city-data crime rate numbers for Oak Brook, Naperville, and Park Ridge, I'm pretty sure they aren't in the top 10. Itasca was definitely a surprise though. Very low numbers, which I wouldn't have expected.

Here's the rankings of the safest places to live in Illinois by Movoto:

All the towns on this list Chicago suburbs. Not all of the towns match up their exact rank when you see their city data crime indexes from 2012. However, Movoto's list was posted in August 2014. Here are Movoto's rankings and City Data's 2012 crime indexes next to them.

1. Homer glen 8.6
2. Buffalo grove 44.2
3. Geneva 57.7
4. Bartlett 61.8
5. Roselle 87.5
6. Lisle 72.4
7. Glen Ellyn 85.4
8. Glenview 84.6
9. New Lenox 79.7
10. Libertyville 72.0

To figure out which towns are the safest based on City Data, the only way is to look up every suburb and compare their crime indexes which would take a LONG time.

Yea, this list does vary quite a bit from city-data. For example, Lake Forest is lower than all of these except Homer Glen. And there's another shocker, I never would have thought of Homer Glen. I think that's the lowest city-data crime index (8.4) I have seen in the area. Very impressive

I see. I was hoping someone knew of a quicker way but maybe that's why no one has been able to provide a response to my question. Thanks

Homer Glen doesn't really exist in the world of City Data. They probably have some of the stats locked away under the heading "Goodings Grove". Have to throw that number out.

I like the City-Data numbers for individual crimes per 100,000 residents, but find the "index" to be only marginally useful as a comparison tool.

There was a thread about that a few months ago. Then a Homer Glen profile was made. There is still a Goodings Grove profile, but there's no crime statistics.

So the Homer Glen city-data crime numbers are valid or no? They do appear exceptionally low.
