The way you framed your original comment, "Do you speak Spanish?" is completely inappropriate. There are other ways to mention Highwood's large Hispanic population. Further, it is not as if Highwood is 99% Hispanic/Latino. According to the 2010 Census, 44% of Highwood residents are not Hispanic or Latino. None of the people that I know personally who live in Highwood or Fort Sheridan are Hispanic or Latino. Anyone comfortable with even a moderate level of diversity should be comfortable living in Highwood and the immediate surrounding area.

My Italian grandparents used to live and work in Highwood. It used to have an Italian grocery store and liquor store, lots of Italian-speaking people in the neighborhood. That changed over the years, and Highwood is now where many of the landscapers and maids employed in the North Shore suburbs live. These people are largely Spanish speaking, but not everyone is. Anyway, similar values, family-oriented, church going, hard-workers, etc. It's a nice little town.

There is still an Italian presence in Highwood. Not what it once was, but not gone. Poeta's Italian Grocery still there too!
For the OP, unless you are opposed to diversity, Highwood is a great community.
