Agreed, in fact, if you look at most of the lists provided in this thread, you will see that most people listed suburbs from only one basic section of the metro area (North, South, West, etc.).

If I had to make a list of my favorites, I would probably go with Arlington Heights, Elmhurst, Downers Grove, Park Ridge, and Tinley Park. I do have a preference for good downtown areas.

Both EGP and Oak Lawn have decent and affordable housing stock, good public transit service, a redeveloping 95th St., proximity to Beverly and its bars and restaurants, decent public schools as well as quality private school options, and diversity that both communities appear to be maintaining. I think both will do well in the coming years.
