Oooh, forgot a couple: La Guardia on Armitage and Hoyne in Bucktown (actually becoming a bit of a destination restaurant, but I remember when it was still 100% neighborhood restaurant). Great Cuban food, reasonable prices.

Then there's the Latin Sandwich Cafe, the only place in the city I know of that serves Chilean food, on Elston and Irving in Irving Park.

One of the few "hidden" neigborhood gems in lakeview is Nazarlik on Belmont just east of Paulina. Simple, affordable, and delicious Turkish food.

Great stuff I now have some new restaurants to explore! A few of mine -- in the Inner Ring:

Sushi Thaime -- 4949 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn (great value, big portions, especially during lunch)

Taco Y Salsa -- 6346 26th St., Berwyn (despite its very humble appearance it serves some the best Mexican food in the City).

Freddy's Pizzeria -- 1600 S. 61st Ave., Cicero (outstanding Italian food and pizza from this small grocery story/restaurant)

Xni Pec -- 5135 W. 25th St., Cicero (Yucatecan restaurant. Ask for a side of the hot salsa, and grab on to something!).

El Jardin Mexican restaurant on Clark not far from Wrigley Field.

La Tavernetta Italian in East Lakeview. Little basement spot with great homemmade pastas.

Las Tablas Colombian steakhouse on Lincoln near Southport.

Que Rico Mexican on Southport near Diversey.

Chicago Bagel Authority on Armitage. Unique steamed (not toasted) bagel sandwiches.

The Art of Pizza on Belmont/Ashland.

I swear, this place has THE BEST deep dish in Chicago and I am surprised more people have not heard of it.

I'm gettin me a slice or three when I'm home next week!

The fact that so many people have heard of Art of Pizza and go out of their way to eat there is why I didn't list it here as a "hidden neighborhood restaurant."
