My experience with Megabus has been great and I highly recommend it.

I'll never fly again to/from any destination less than 500 miles away. Too much hassle.

It would be a short flight but you still need to get to the airport 1 + hours before takeoff and then wait for checked baggage at the other end not to mention it may take longer to travel to the airport than downtown.
Yes, particularly for Indy, since Megabus drops off downtown while the airport is SE of the city.

This thread is old, I know.

But you can fly Southwest direct from Chicago to Nashville for around $100 each way. ON average it is $150 each way, but if you buy in advance and get the deals, I have seen tickets for $69-$80 each way.

I would rather do this than sit on a bus.

Riding the bus will probably be more comfortable than sitting in a cramped airline seat. The new generation of busses are quite nice. Nicer than aircraft passenger seating areas. And taking the bus doesn't require transport to/from an airport or a one to two-hour in advance wait time once at the airport. Travel times will vary, though. But if someone isn't rushed for time taking a bus may be the best option. Particularly so with fares.

No, buses are not more comfortable than airplane seats, not even the more modern ones. You do get to skip the security lines, though, that is true.

Sorry do disagree with you. Of course, if someone sits in First or Business Class ... those seats will be better. But the Coach and Economy seating on airplanes don't favorably compare to what the new Greyhound and Mega Bus offer.

As someone who has flown coach, ridden Megabus and ridden Greyhound all within the past 6 months, I think I'm in a good position to comment. And, no, the bus seats are no more comfortable than the airline seats on American or United or Porter Airlines. The 2 hours from Chicago to Champaign on Megabus was a lot less comfortable than the two hours on Porter to Toronto, and also the four hours to San Francisco on American or back on United. The Greyhound seats on their newest buses are a little bigger than the old ones, however they're ergonomically much worse, which makes sitting in them very uncomfortable after about 30 minutes.

They aren't much better if you have to sit next to someone, but most buses I've been on haven't been full and I usually get two seats to myself.

When that happens, whether on planes or buses, it's certainly nice. I don't think you can count on that, though, especially if you're travelling with someone or on a weekend. I've had a row to myself only about half the time on buses.
