Probably summers in general, and the food.

The big electrical thunderstorms you see coming from miles away on the horizon.

The dirt and the grit. The accents. The surly attitudes that I constantly complain about (but do I want to be surrounded by nice people all the time, really?). The corrupted politics. The Spanish spoken everywhere, along with great carne asada and fresh-delivered tortillas to the corner store. The boutiques I cannot afford to shop in but am glad they're there for if. The fame of being a resident of the city that Obama calls home.

As soon as I click post, I will think of three other things. But I'll post again...

Whenever I do leave Chicago even for a little bit I always miss Public Trans. Chicago's public trans is arguably the best in the country. Maybe not compared to New York, but close.

I also miss the food and abundance of bars. I am sure if I moved I would miss the lake shore and its running path in all of its glory.

Yes, my kids had a blast catching them in our backyard this past summer.

I'm away for a bit and I already miss a ton of things there.

First and foremost some of my friends there. Great people. After that I miss the lake the most. I used to bike almost every morning April-November along the lakefront or through the city. A lot of times, in the evening, a long bike ride was enough entertainment for me to call it a night. I'd grab some fresh seafood and beers when I got back and be in heaven.

I also miss the festivals and festival food. The house parties. The crazy nights. The beach. The food. How close everything was (density). How relaxing or busy the city could feel.

Ready to get back.
