Favorite traditions, places, anything that comes to mind.
Sorry for the title typo, I can't figure out how to change it!

The summers probably. They can be pretty awesome here (but it's not like it's the only city in the world without awesome summers).

this is what I DO miss now that I have gone:

Pizza, hot dogs, architecture, lakefront, the Cubs, decent food, museums, Marshall Fields, family.

Yes, I know that Macy's has destroyed Marshall Fields, but, I still miss it.

It's hard to know what you'll miss until you leave. I really miss the beautiful architecture, but also the beautiful, stylish Chicagoans. I never realized how much people watching I did in Chicago before I moved away.

And of course I miss the diversity and character of the neighborhoods. Chicago never got old because there was always another part of it I hadn't seen before.

I miss the karaoke, the tiny dance floors and great DJ's, and all of the hole in the wall places where I could grab a Gyro.

When I leave I will probably miss the accents and the energy.

I would miss the independently operated fast food stands on what seems like every street corner. Places with big blinking red-and-yellow signs, with humorous puns and misspellings in the names. Places with surly Greek or Mexican guys manning the counter and a fine layer of grease over every exposed surface. Sophisticated international menus including Italian beefs, Greek gyros, Polish sausages, American burgers, Irish fish sandwiches (for Lent), "Mexican" tamales, and fresh-cut fries rivaling any found in Belgium.

It's easy to forget about, living surrounded by do much greasy greatness, but all it takes is one visit to my family out-of-state to remind me that this kind of food has been replaced by mega-chain drive thrus in the rest of the country.
