I second Sidetrack and Roscoe's. Both have a mix of ages, and both are a lot of fun. Roscoe's also has a dance floor, although I would say the bar, overall, probably skews a tad younger than a bar like Sidetrack. Still mixed though.

Just don't start out at a place like Scarlet. I personally love it, but your friend would probably end up shellshocked.

Happens all the time. People don't come out because they're scared to lose their family and friends and even job.

Also, if he's ever in River North then tell him to check out Downtown. I have a good number of older (30s and 40s) gay friends who go there who live in the area. I've been there a few times with them and it's not off the hook or anything, but the average demographic seems to be in the maybe mid 30s to early 40s, and I've seen people in their 20s all the way to their 50s and 60s there the few times I've been there.

I would say Andersonville? Boystown is... a lot of 19 year old twinks looking to take advantage of older men such as your friend.

Little Jim's! All ages and races and body types... and easiest place to "get lucky".

Seriously, I agree with those who suggested Sidetrack. I took a straight friend visiting from Dallas there a couple years ago and he was pretty cool with it.

Yeah...I'm a little worried for him, being married 17 years (!) and all...and he's jumping in really fast. But that seems common for guys whether gay or straight.

I definitely agree with Sidetrack--it's a comfortable atmosphere for a wide variety.

A real nice bar in the suburbs (Elk Grove) is Hunters.. if anyone wants to go to a nice place that all ages feel comfortable in, and the patio is beautiful, check out Hunters.. really nice!!! very romantic that patio is, well not for me, but for the guys LOL... (Im a girl).
