I'd say generally yes. Depending on the odd part. Generally if you are reasonably gregarious, outgoing, good humored, that will do well with the some of the ladies.

Chicago is a weird hybrid of Midwest friendly, with this peculiar liberal slant (generally) of pragmatism/nihilism. I often call it the People's Republic of Chicago as a joke, even though we have our share of upper 0.01% financial pirates. That said, people are pretty friendly and receptive here. There are a ton of people from all over the world here, and you'll hear that pretty quickly when you hear people speaking in unfamiliar languages.

Most of the people that I know agree, especially those that lived on the west and east coasts, that Chicago is by far the preferential city in the US to live in, as long as you can enjoy the cold. Otherwise that % of people says they would ex-pat as the US is just horribly screwed.

I've done the Danny's to Estelle's walk, and it's in a reasonably safe area as well.

^ Don't tell that to a few people who come to this forum. They're convinced that everyone who lives in Chicago is from the midwest. Just don't tell them that they're basing most of their opinion off of areas like Lakeview and Lincoln Park and things are actually different outside of those areas (though you can still find your fair share of east or west coasters in both of those neighborhoods too but they're a small percentage compared to the others).

Which Hyatt are you talking about....??

To other bars? Depends on where the bars are. In general, public transit is pretty easy in Chicago and in the popular neighborhoods with nightlife will be safe. The Red and Blue Lines run 24/7, but the other lines are more like 20-21 hours/day, so if there's a 4am/5am bar you want to go to after about 2:15 am that's along other lines and not close to you or not close to red or blue, it's then easier to take the cab.

Chicago is also very walkable in areas so you know, there are numerous areas with bars/clubs/lounges very close to one another. Think city layout more like New York in some areas, not like new suburbia where you have to drive most places.

Lou Malnati's > Gino's East in my opinion (and many others'). What type of food are you looking for exactly? There's a **** load of good food in Chicago but it's hard to recommend anything unless we know what you're looking for (besides pizza).

Well pizza

steak (if it's reasonably price I sure as hell ain't paying anything over $20 for a meal) and a 24 hour breakfast but no lame chain think Dennys or Perkins

Preferably something mom and pop

Not sure why you'd mention the orange line. Most of the places you're going to want to go are north of you, which the Orange Line doesn't go to. You can walk to places in River North (right across the river and a little to the west) or take a very short cab ride there.

Most things in the popular neighborhoods are not chains and outside of your typical Starbucks, most people who live in the more yuppie hoods of Chicago very much dislike chains and support local. Yes, there's some in the touristy areas, but usually they're smaller ones like a Cantina Laredo. I can only think of a few big, lame chains in this area and one of them is Chili's. Most of the other ones are small things like Starbucks, McDonald's, or small froyo chains.

You're talking about a city with a Michellin dining guide, which is essentially one of the top, if not THE top, guide for fine dining in the world. Not many cities in the world have one of those. For steak for under $20? Not at a steakhouse here. You'll have to go to a restaurant that doesn't necessarily specialize in steak. The lowest price you'll find is probably $30-$35 at most places downtown. Look for places serving up American food or many different types but not specializing in steak. Cantina Laredo probably has a Mexican style steak for around that price too.

As far as a 24 hour or late night diner goes? I'd say Tempo Cafe on State & Chestnut, Eggsperience on Ontario & Dearborn (not truly 24 hours but on weekends I think it is). There are other places that aren't necessarily 24 hours but serve up some decent food until late, like Bijan's Bistro open until 4am. You could probably find your steak there too for cheaper.

Chicago is way more than its downtown though, so for food, it's spread out. There's good places all over the place and I'll remind you of this: Only 5% of Chicago's population actually lives in the greater downtown area.

Cars are almost counterproductive in downtown Chicago - It's very walkable and served with good public transit. Numerous other areas of town too, so not sure why you mention cars if you understand me Parking ramps cost a lot of money anyway to store the car there for any extended period of time especially when you realize you wouldn't be using it almost ever. The cost of your parking fees can end up being more per day than the price of rental. Remember what I said about NYC, and not most other cities in the US.. If you come to Chicago and especially plan on just staying around downtown, the best course of action is almost always to either take the train in or a cab.

By the way, the picture you posted with the women, you won't find that type of thing in every neighborhood but at the lounges and some clubs in River North, West Loop, etc (i.e. Y Bar, Bevy, Sound-Bar, Spy Bar, etc) it's more common. Lakeview? Most of Wicker Park (minus Club Ohm and Evil Olive maybe...)? No..

Gotcha. Yes, take the Orange Line. It's easy, cheap, and fairly quick (~20 minutes).

Never been there on a Monday, but it's worth a shot. It's "Porn and Chicken" btw
