Most of the arguments against Chuy is that he has talked a lot about spending money but not about he is going to pay for everything. The city is already strapped for cash.

Most of the problems with Rahm stem from the last 5-6 years under Daley.

What does this even mean? Over 1 million people denied basic human rights? Last time I checked, Chicago isn't rural India, Ciudad Juarez, war-torn Syria, or Boko Haram-held Nigeria. Could poor Chicagoans have it better? Sure, but enough with the hyperbole.

I've seen some glimmers from Mr. Garcia that make me think his leadership would be a lot more pragmatic than his supporters would like. There is local precedent out there for an anti-establishment candidate who ended up being pragmatic after elected - see Mayor Harold Washington. More recently, Pat Quinn's populism was no match for the realities of the state budget. It's always a lot easier being in the opposition than actually having to govern.

We'll see what happens tomorrow. I don't trust the polls, but I also don't see how the numbers add up for Chuy. Especially when you look at which wards have led the way in early voting and absentee ballot requests.

Good one! I knew there was a punchline buried somewhere in your post.

I have no idea how I've been able to avoid the robocalls. Do they not do them on cell phones or something?

Can someone explain how the voting system works? Is it a tally of all votes or does each ward or precinct win individually and then get totaled?

Wife and I have avoided robo calls but have each had about 3 calls from pollsters.

Straight vote count; no "electoral college" type ward-by-ward count.

Not sure how turnout will go today. I voted about 8:15 in the 31st Ward, where we also have an aldermanic run-off. I was the only voter there, and I didn't notice anyone else go in for the 7 or so minutes I was waiting for the Diversey bus afterwards. Wife went in a few hours later and said she was the only voter as well.
