Here is what happened in Portland

The Feds are making things worse

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...erans-protests

Quote:
“They are not supposed to be coming and attacking protesters,” Obermeyer told the Guardian. “They didn’t even give any warning, there was no ‘hey you need to move’, ‘hey back up’. There was basically them walking out and assaulting a protester just to prove that they could.”

Just a few feet away, Obermeyer was aware of another man, US navy veteran Chris David, asking virtually the same question.
Quote:
Obermeyer also asked the officers whether they understand what an illegal order is, referencing the fact that military officers are required by law to disobey illegal or unconstitutional orders.

“Assaulting an unarmed protester who is exercising their first amendment rights is illegal, that’s an illegal order,” he said.

That’s when teargas was fired on the two men. When that didn’t deter them, Obermeyer said an officer tried to hit him with a baton, but he caught it and quickly pushed him back. Another officer repeatedly beat David with a baton, breaking his hand in two places, an injury that will require surgery on Monday. He was also sprayed in the face with a white chemical irritant that he said “felt like flaming gasoline.”

There are now

A Wall of Vets
A Wall of Moms
A Wall of Dads (who brought leaf blowers to blow the teargas back at the troops)
A Wall of Grandmothers

People are angry.

protesters are asking for trouble and need to stop crying when they get it. And MUCH more needs to be done to them before they destroy what is left of our city's. Especially after hearing that they said Portalnd was just a test and they they are saving their full power to destroy what is left of Chicago! If there is any truth to that then its time to stop them once and for all WHATEVER IT TAKES!!

Like when they used cutting torches and sledgehammers to break into the Federal Courthouse in Portland? Like when they used commercial-grade fireworks to attack Federal employees in said courthouse? Like when one of them stabbed someone today?

Any "peaceful" protesters exercising their fundamental American rights, would do well not to serve as cover for those I listed above, lest they risk turning into collateral damage. Rioting and Looting are NOT fundamental American rights, they are acts of insurrectionists, and should be put down with whatever force is required to put them down. Pick a lane, and then accept whatever consequences come from the lane you choose to ride in. For your sake, I hope you choose the lane that does not contain cutting torches, sledgehammers, and explosives.

Portland's mayor was hit with tear gas

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/23/u...gas-mayor.html

Quote:
The mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, was left coughing and wincing in the middle of his own city on Wednesday night after federal officers deployed tear gas into a crowd of protesters that Mr. Wheeler had joined outside the federal courthouse.

Mr. Wheeler, who scrambled to put on goggles while denouncing what he called the “urban warfare” tactic of the federal agents in Oregon, said that he was outraged by the use of tear gas and that it only made protesters more angry.

“I’m not going to lie — it stings; it’s hard to breathe,” Mr. Wheeler said. “And I can tell you with 100 percent honesty, I saw nothing which provoked this response.”

The feds did not have good training

https://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...aining-in-riot

Quote:
The federal agents deployed to Portland, Ore., amid nationwide protests did not have riot and mass crowd control training, according to an internal memo that was circulated at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and obtained by The New York Times.
Quote:
The memo, compiled for acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf was dated for Thursday just as Wolf traveled to Portland to view firsthand the situation between protesters and federal authorities. The memo reportedly listed federal buildings and the officers deployed to defend them.

In addition, the memo suggested that should federal law enforcement be deployed to other U.S. cities that are experiencing unrest that, "if this type of response is going to be the norm, specialized training and standardized equipment should be deployed to responding agencies.”

Okay, folks. This thread devolved into sophomoric bickering, personal attacks and off-topic remarks. I've deleted the most recent inappropriate posts but will not spend hours cleaning up the entire thread. The thread is now closed.
