There was a ton of gun violence this weekend, not related to fests. Mostly in the spots where it happens the most. It's going to be a spicy summer.

Kmanshouse, good morning,

To "sorta play Devil's Advocate", 100 years ago (beginning in Probation) there were murders in certain areas of the city, more than others. And during THOSE times, it was likely Italian-Americans that were highly active in crimes, killings, etc.

That said, I don't think you really heard about "innocent" victims, children, women being killed, like you do in our times.

I attribute that to a "culture" thing.... THAT said, there have been examples of WHITE Biker gangs slaying a turncoat/possible turncoat, but they ALSO murder the guy's wife and child while they were sleeping. (This happened in MY family, as a matter of fact, back in 1986).

Okay, but this is about Chicago, Jay. In Chicago, most of the murdery/shootey things are still in certain neighborhoods SW of Wicker Park and south of Bridgeport. And they are in predominantly non-white areas.

Not to say white people can't be murderers, or that it NEVER happens in other areas, but it's very obvious based on the maps where 90% of it is happening. And sure, sometimes innocent people get in the way, or are part of a domestic tragedy.

Go here and look at June. One murder in Streeterville - zero north of there, zero west of there until you get to the problem spots.

https://graphics.suntimes.com/homicides/

267 for the year so far.

Lincoln Park = 0
Lakeview = 1
Lincoln Square = 0
North Center = 0
Near North Side (River North/Old Town) = 1
Loop = 1
Logan Square = 1
Avondale = 0
West Town = 1
Uptown = 0 (amazingly)

Austin = 25
West Garfield Park = 12
Englewood = 16
Chatham = 13
North Lawndale = 13
Greater Grand Crossing = 15 (b/t Englewood and South Shore)

I mean, this data is compelling as to where the murdering is happening.

I lived in Andersonville - traditionally low crime and still low crime. What neighborhoods do (or did) some of you others live in?

Mod cut.

Spring 2019 until a month ago = Lincoln Square

a month ago to now = East Ukrainian Village.

Before that, suburbs.
