2 Corinthians 3:14-17

But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

Nevermind the self righteous, holier than thou hypocrisy. Simply answer the question. Jesus said that God commanded (under the Mosaic Law which the Church is not under) that those who speak evil of father or mother were to be put to death.

Do you, who claims that the Old Testament misrepresents God, believe Jesus' statement that God gave that command? Did God say that those who speak evil of father or mother be put to death as Jesus said that He did? Or do you not believe Jesus?

Why don't you believe they should not be put to death today ?. Jesus did not come to abolish the law, which when understood in the light of Jesus Christ is love your neighbor as yourself( Romans 13:10)

Do you believe Jesus? And can you 'God is love' people accept that God gave that command?
Mike555 - why would you have a problem with the "GOD IS LOVE" statement in the scripture? Or do you just not believe it? Do you have a problem with God being love? Do you not love, Love? If not, why is that? Is it too "feminine" for your taste, perhaps?

I have no problem with the fact that God is love. People such as yourself distort God's character by ignoring the fact that God is also righteous and just. Jesus is the lamb of God, but He is also the lion of Judah. When Jesus returns He will not come as the suffering servant as He did at His first advent, but will come as the righteous judge. And He will literally destroy the armies who oppose Him at His return.

This thread is to see how many of you who claim that the Old Testament misrepresents God, believe what Jesus said when He stated that God said that those who speak evil of father and mother were to be put to death. You have made it clear that you do not believe Jesus.

Why are you so certain that Jesus said any such thing, Mike. Was it a direct quote? The fiction that everything in the Bible is from Jesus is patently absurd. It is the result of the "precepts and doctrines of men" that such attribution is made using THEIR concept of God and Christ's relationship to Him and what is in the Bible. The same men who think that everything in the Bible is God's word. Preposterous. God inspired scripture does NOT mean God's words.

Now you're employing the tactic of calling into question whether Jesus actually said what the Bible records Him as saying. Satan used that same tactic when he deceived the woman in the garden when he asked, ''Indeed, has God said...'' Gen. 3:1

if it makes you feel any better, you are the only person on the planet who thinks this way. Absolute madness.

I hope none of you"God is love" people have children. I cant imagine how you would discipline them.

No Mike . . . I am calling into question the context of Christ's quote and your presentation of it out of context to make an invalid point. Jesus was in no way addressing or confirming the validity of the OT descriptions of God's command. He was pointing out the hypocrisy of the Scribes and Pharisees who believed it WAS God's command . . . yet they contravened it. You know this but pretend to think otherwise. Why? Is misrepresenting things part of defending your Mentors' dogma and doctrines?

Jesus said that God said that those who speak evil of father or mother were to be put to death.

Matthew 15:3 And He (Jesus) answered and said to them, "Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4] "For God said, 'HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,' and, 'HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH.' 5] "But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God," 6] he is not to honor his father or his mother.' And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

Jesus said, ''For God said...''

'And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.'

Your answer then, is one of denial and evasion.

He was using what THEY believed God said to convict them of hypocrisy in contravening it, period. Your indoctrination is too strong and immutable. It is very sad that you think so little of our loving Father because of what our savage ancestors believed about Him.
