The ignorant ancestors that you refer to believed in Yahovah/Yeshua/Jesus, (GOD in the flesh.) HE Is the ONE that hung on that instrument of torture and died for OUR sins. THE ONE TRUE GOD. You can try, but you can not change YAHOVAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, it is not perfect and anything that is not perfect cannot come from God. The Bible is man's interpretation of the word of God.

PS 22:16 For dogs have compassed Me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed Me: they pierced My hands and My feet.

PS 69:21 They gave Me also gall for My meat; and in My thirst they gave Me vinegar to drink.

PS 22:18 They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My vesture.

PS 22:1 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My roaring?

IS 52:14-15 As many were astonied at You; His visage [face] was so marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men: So shall He sprinkle [with His blood] many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at Him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

IS 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.

IS 53:7-10 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare His generation? for He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of My people was He stricken. And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief: when You shall make His soul an offering for sin,"

IS 53:12 He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

PS 22:6-8 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see Me laugh Me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that He would deliver Him: let Him deliver Him, seeing He delighted in Him.

It's a crappy screed of no value, if you want to read a real book about all
that was going on in the Holy Land at the time of Jesus's crucifixion,
get a copy of The Day Christ Died by Jim Bishop. You won't be sorry.

Keep in mind also that these prophecies were written by David around 1000BC and Isaiah, around 850bc, long before Christ, and long before crucifixion was even invented and refined by the Romans. These prophecies, plus the large number of witnesses to Jesus ministry death and resurrection, and Jesus own prophecies that have only been fulfilled in the last few hundred years are evidence I always give to the Bible being divinely inspired. For who but God can tell of events far in the future and make them happen.

What does our knowledge of the bible have anything to do with salvation? You can be saved and not know any true context of scripture. It doesn't matter how you perceive bible verses as long as you know and believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for your sins and is risen. Jesus will not send anyone to hell for wrong perception of the bible. Salvation is based entirely on His work and not our works or lack of knowledge.

You're half right. Ish.

In a way....

Although raised, educated, and indoctrinated in the Catholic faith back when it Ruled in Canada (50s-early 60s) I have long left Christianity in my rear view mirror. But I still respect the church for a few reasons, one of which is its sensible realization that the bible has holes - reality-wise - and that what needs to be gleaned is the lesson, not the truth or historicity of the story.

The catholic church believes the bible has "holes" because it contains many scriptures that contradict and go against what they believe. I believe the catholic church bases the majority of its beliefs on assumptions instead of context. You don't have to abandon Christianity. Just learn more of the context of scripture and it will all start to make sense.

My world makes sense enough for me - without scripture.

Thanks, though.
