I can't tell you the exact date of Christ's birth. Nobody can. The modern Church choose the 25th of December because it coincides with the winter solstice. Not because of any pagan practice or ceremony. But because the solstace means the darkest moment of the year. After the solstace, more light is shone every day. Christ is the light and it makes sense that we celebrate his birth on the darkest day of the year. Because before, Christ we were in darkness. After Christ, we have light.

Lightbulb Winter Solstice Son

pssssst.... come here, closer, closer..... I have something to share with you on this subject and I think you may find it to be quite interesting. The story goes like this:

On December 21 of each year it is the Winter Solstice, or the moment in a years time when our Sun has reached its’ lowest most southerly point on its’ axis. From this point forward the sun will begin to move northerly ever so gradually until eventually becoming spring, then summer, then fall, only to repeat the cycle again. With the sun at its lowest axis point on December 21st it's logical to assume that on December 22nd our Sun would indeed begin its northerly ascent towards longer, hotter days and summer, but it does not. Watching closely on December 22nd we see that the sun appears to neither move north or south; this seems a bit shocking. And as the 23rd of December greets us that as we closely monitor our Sun it again appears to neither move north or south rather it appears to stay in its same axis position as on the 21st. And on the 24th again, our Sun appears to not budge even a degree north or south; and these facts are beginning to disturb a few of us. Being both excited and concerned on the 25th of December as we look more closely at our Sun we find that it does indeed begin its northerly ascent by one degree towards spring and summer on the 25th of December. And so it was said, “The Sun died, was dead for three days, only to be resurrected to spring forth in all its light and glory with life, love, warmth, abundance.”!

So which came first? Sun/Son?

p.s. this miracle of timing and our sun just so happens to be a foundation for many of the worlds religions, not just Christianity. It has been passed down as such through the ages and religions whereby Only the names and ages change.

My wish for the New Year is that NEXT YEAR we can put a ban on these endless, stupid, threads about December 25 BLAH BLAH BLAH.

NO ONE believes Christ was born on December 25. EVERYONE knows that the celebration has to do with the winter solstice.

We don't need fifty threads saying the same thing over and over and over and over again every year starting in October.

Please stop. Please.

Well, it gets discussed because it is ............ the wrong dater and is an invention of man.The Bible tells us when he was born, though not the date. Men wishing to please pagans, instituted the current date. That is historical fact and known to anyone who wishes to actually check on it.

More importantly God did not command any such celebration, the 1st century Christians had no such celebration and when a date was important god gave it to us. The date of the flood, date the Ark landed, date the door was opened, date of the passover, date of Jerusalem's destruction by Babylon and on and on. BUT no date given fpr Christ's birth.

If God wanted it known let alone celebrated. He would have made it quite clear. He didn't. which really should tell people who care about what God wants. something about NOT creating a celebration around a wrong date. Oh and Biblically inaccurate to boot. Of course if one wants to feel good, think they are pleasing God and fit into the "World" we are to be no part of we get, ................... Christmas on Dec 25.

Alot of Christians know of the pagan origins of Christmas, but they DONT want to give up getting presents. People just like getting gifts.

You could list from A-Z all the pagan aspect, how the day cam about, why it was chosen and all the things that still are carbon copies of the pagan celebration and they wont care because they want their presents.

Go back and read my post. You seem to have missed my point, which is that everyone already knows this, has known this forever (I knew it back in the 1960s as a child), and I don't understand why so many people keep making new threads to declare this over and over again. It's as if you and your fellow posters who want to keep repeating this are saying 1 PLUS 1 IS TWO! 1 PLUS 1 IS TWO! 1 PLUS 1 IS TWO!

EVERYONE KNOWS THIS ALREADY. NO ONE THINKS DECEMBER 25 IS JESUS'S BIRTHDAY.

I don't think it matters one bit. Love God and Love Your Neighbor matters.

I think we each need to worry about our own souls and not anyone else's Christmas presents or lack of them.

Isn't worship supposed to be based on truth according to John 4 vs 23,24 ?

Jesus preaching and teaching did show concern about other's souls or lives - Matthew 24 v 14; 28 vs 19,20
Wasn't that a top priority motivation for Jesus - Luke 4 v 43 ?
