But I think a goodly chunk of the true meaning of Christmas is giving what we can and being thankful for what we've been given. That it is at least partly expressed in pre$ent$ doesn't necessarily mean it is lacking in spirit.

"Peace on earth and goodwill towards men" isn't exactly a terrible sentiment.

Jeremiah 10~100s of years before Jesus.

God and Idols
1Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel. 2This is what the Lord says:
“Do not learn the ways of the nations
or be terrified by signs in the heavens,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
4They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.
5Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm
nor can they do any good.”

People have lost the true meaning of Christmas, but I will teach them the correct way to worship the ancient gods.

TIME to set up the Festivus Pole. Today is the DAY. Tonite is the feast of festivus.
The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances. I gotta lot of problems with you people and now you're gonna hear it.

Just kidding

I would state for the record, I was NOT being sarcastic with Mystic. I appreciate and respect his insights.
He is correct, the celebration of the holiday means whatever the celebrant says it means. If someone celebrates it as the birth of Jesus Christ, then that is what it is to that person. If another celebrates it as the birth of Santa Claus, then so be it.

My complaint has always been when other people (mainly fundies/evangelicals) have tried to stop others from celebrating the way they choose to celebrate. I enjoy what I do for Christmas, and if someone else does not like it, too bad.

I do however, enjoy how it does, for a short time even, help some people to think about others, to put the needs and wants of others into the forefront of their minds and lives. Charity peaks at Christmas. I would wish it happened more through the year, but any charitable acts and acts of kindness are good, and someone helping others at Christmas is far better than someone not helping another at all.

I took no sarcasm, KingCat.
