I get it. The point is that Christian fundamentalists will not see that God could not very well give a command with no definition of it. I'm simply giving their own black and white vision of scripture back to them. If it is the sole source if revelation then all their explanations of dichotomies of scripture may only use scripture.
On the other hand, I use scripture when it is relevant and other sources when they are. I see the revelation of God in just about EVERYTHING, so I'm confident God has good reason for allowing our sense of morality to grow over the centuries so that it is broader now than at anytime in the last two thousand years. And it will grow more!
Again, as has been clearly shown in the Scriptures, Jesus died as a sacrifice, as our substitute, for our sins. No honest and objective person can deny this.
The problem you may see there is that they have been taught that the attempts to explain the fact of atonement can only be applied to the mechanism of atonement that they hold. They are not willing to look at other perceptions because it would bring down their whole authoritarian house of cards. The fact that the idea that it is both a heinous concept AND contrary to scripture you cite will make no impression on their own interests. How else are they going to maintain their increasingly challenged control?

Precisely what we have been talking about, that Law may not be perfect in itself, but that fulfillment of the animating spirit does what those "jots and tittles" can't. Law is not enough. There must be that commitment to the love that fulfills the need that Law imperfectly addresses. Understand what that need is and desire it above all else and there is no need any longer for the "schoolmaster," you have come to Christ.
That point is lost on so many people. It's like "they must be right, they quoted so much scripture," never mind that the scripture doesn't say what they teach.
Amen, Richard . . . but their ears are deaf and their eyes are blind to all but their indoctrination into a heinous primitive and savage doctrine of blood sacrifice. I cannot believe that ANY 21st century mind could ever accept such an evil and heinous belief about the motives of our loving Father after Christ's unambiguous teaching and example.
I think he came to explain the LAW correctly, or Fulfill the LAW...And show us the way...
